LAGFERRY BOAT CATCHES FIRE AT IPAKODO TERMINAL, IKORODU – 19 RESCUED, 9 INJURED ~ INN Nigeria ☆

Ikorodu, Lagos – A fire outbreak occurred earlier today on a Lagos State Ferry Services (LAGFERRY) boat, Igbega Eko, at the Ipakodo Terminal in Ikorodu, Lagos.

The incident, which happened at approximately 6:45 a.m., took place just after passengers had boarded the vessel for departure.

There were 19 passengers on board, all of whom were successfully rescued.

However, nine sustained burn injuries and are currently receiving medical attention at Ikorodu General Hospital, where they will be treated free of charge.

Emergency protocols were immediately activated, with the Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA), private boat operators, and other rescuers swiftly responding to contain the situation and ensure the safety of passengers.

LAGFERRY, in an official statement, expressed gratitude to all responders and commended passengers for their cooperation during the evacuation.

A full-scale investigation has been launched to ascertain the cause of the fire and implement necessary measures to prevent future occurrences.

In the meantime, LAGFERRY has assured the public that enhanced safety inspections will be reinforced across its fleet to maintain safety standards on Lagos waterways.
