BOOSTING GRASSROOTS GROWTH: LAGOS CARES DRIVES AGRICULTURAL INFRASTRUCTURE AND COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT ~ INN Nigeria ☆

In a bold demonstration of its unwavering commitment to agricultural transformation and rural development, the Lagos State Government, through the Lagos CARES Result Area 2 Intervention, has intensified its efforts in improving farm infrastructure and enhancing market access across the state.

The State Project Coordinator, in the company of members from the Project Implementation Unit (PIU), recently embarked on an inspection tour of key sites benefitting from the intervention.

The visit highlighted completed and ongoing projects that are vital to improving the livelihoods of farmers and strengthening the agricultural value chain.

Among the projects inspected was the cassava processing platform equipped with a solar-powered water system located at Ota-Ikosi Agbowa in Epe, aimed at boosting productivity and efficiency in cassava production.

The team also visited the Aladepekun Market in Epe, where an upgraded borehole water system with essential operational equipment has been installed to support hygiene and accessibility for traders and buyers alike.

Another critical stop was the newly constructed culverts linking Obawole and Solanke Communities in Ifako-Ijaiye, a vital infrastructural link that now facilitates smoother movement of goods and people within the area.

Additionally, the rehabilitated access roads at the Porobage Farmers Community have significantly eased transportation challenges for farmers and improved access for agricultural produce buyers.

Beyond project assessments, the visits provided a strategic platform for the team to engage with traditional rulers, including respected Obas and community leaders, on the imperative of maintenance and community ownership of these infrastructures.

Discussions focused on sustainability, fostering collective responsibility, and safeguarding the investments made for the benefit of future generations.

According to the State Project Coordinator, “These initiatives under the Lagos CARES Result Area 2 are not just about physical structures; they are about empowering communities, improving food security, and building resilient local economies.”

Through such holistic interventions, the Lagos State Government continues to demonstrate that community-driven development, anchored on sustainability and inclusiveness, is the path toward lasting socio-economic growth.

The Lagos CARES initiative remains a model for how targeted support can transform rural and farming communities while advancing the broader goals of economic resilience and development.
