The Senator representing Lagos East Senatorial District, Senator Mukhail Adetokunbo Abiru, FCA, has emphasized the critical need for robust synergy between policymakers and private sector leaders to drive Nigeria’s sustainable development.
Speaking on Thursday in Lagos as Chairman of the occasion at the David Oladipo Leadership Roundtable and the launch of the book “The Real Leader”, Senator Abiru — who also chairs the Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance, and Other Financial Institutions — underscored the urgency of a renewed leadership framework to advance the nation.
“The future of Nigeria demands a new leadership compact — one that bridges the divide between public and private sector leadership,” Abiru remarked. “We must forge a coalition of competence, where the government sets a clear long-term vision and fosters an enabling environment, while the private sector delivers innovation, investment, and execution.”
He further stressed that meaningful national development can only be achieved through inclusive and collaborative efforts across all sectors.
“True development occurs when we engage practitioners — when legislators listen to industry leaders and communities; when civil servants act as nation-builders, not just gatekeepers; and when private sector players embrace a broader sense of national responsibility beyond the pursuit of profit,” he added.
“Whether we’re tackling energy poverty, modernizing agriculture, reforming education, or developing smart infrastructure, the key is synergy, not silos.”
In his keynote address, Pastor Ituah Ighodalo echoed similar sentiments, asserting that leadership is pivotal to either a nation’s progress or decline. He called on Nigerians to restore the values that once shaped the country’s greatness.
Dr. David Oladipupo, the convener of the event, who also celebrated his 50th birthday with the launch of his book, emphasized the urgent need for leadership reform.
“With the right leadership across every sector, we can guarantee better outcomes,” Oladipupo stated. “This gathering is about forging synergy and devising actionable strategies to lift Nigeria — and Africa — out of stagnation by addressing the leadership deficits impeding our growth. Our salvation lies in our hands, not those of international donors or global financial institutions.”
The event brought together policymakers, business executives, thought leaders, academics, youth advocates, and civil society actors united in their vision for a prosperous Nigeria anchored on shared responsibility and visionary leadership.
