
The Monarch Alloys Limited 3LPE and Concrete Weights Loading Plant located in Ikorodu has been officially commissioned by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, in a significant boost to Lagos State’s industrial development.
The high-capacity facility is expected to further solidify Lagos as Africa’s leading economic hub and a prime investment destination.
Represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Barr. ‘Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin, Governor Sanwo-Olu, in his keynote address, highlighted the plant’s role in affirming the State’s industrial ambitions.
He noted that the facility, equipped with state-of-the-art technology, has the capacity to produce up to two million square meters of 3-Layer Polyethylene (3LPE) pipeline coatings per annum, along with concrete weights, thereby positioning Lagos at the forefront of infrastructure readiness and industrial innovation in Nigeria.
Describing the project as a “strategic leap forward” in Lagos’ industrial growth trajectory, the Governor praised the investment as a testament to investor confidence, local engineering ingenuity, and government policy effectiveness.
He further emphasized its alignment with the State’s 2025 economic blueprint, which centers on inclusive growth, industrial transformation, and youth empowerment.
Governor Sanwo-Olu commended Monarch Alloys Limited for its commitment to job creation, environmental sustainability, and operational excellence, stressing that the strategic siting of the plant in Ikorodu will not only decentralize industrial development across Lagos but also spur localized employment and economic activity.
“This plant demonstrates what’s possible when vision meets execution,” he stated, adding that its operations will support critical sectors such as construction, oil and gas, and maritime by supplying essential materials that ensure durability, safety, and efficiency in national infrastructure projects.
Also present at the commissioning, the Minister of State for Industry, Trade and Investment, Senator John Enoh, and Minister of State for Petroleum, Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, both applauded the initiative, noting that the facility aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s agenda to minimize dependence on imported materials.
They urged major oil companies to prioritize local content and partner with Monarch Alloys to strengthen Nigeria’s industrial base.
The Managing Director of Monarch Alloys Limited, Mr. Atul Chaudhary, revealed that the company has steadily grown to become one of Nigeria’s leading steel producers, now ready to end steel importation.
He also disclosed that the newly commissioned plant was completed within an 18-month period.
Speaking on behalf of the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB), the Executive Secretary, Mr. Felix Ogbe, hailed the plant as another milestone in Nigeria’s drive to build and deploy advanced pipeline infrastructure locally, reinforcing the country’s capacity to deliver on high-tech industrial projects from design to execution.
The event was attended by notable dignitaries including Senator Tokunbo Abiru representing Lagos East, former Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment Otunba Niyi Adebayo, Lagos State Commissioner for Commerce, Cooperatives, Trade and Investment Mrs. Folashade Ambrose-Medebem, traditional ruler of Ikorodu Oba Kabiru Adewale Shotobi, industry leaders, and top government officials.
The commissioning of the Monarch Alloys plant marks another historic chapter in Lagos State’s economic evolution—positioning Ikorodu as a rising industrial corridor and Lagos as an increasingly self-reliant and globally competitive economic powerhouse.
