LAGOS INTEGRATES NIN INTO SOCIAL REGISTER FOR FG’s ₦75,000 CASH TRANSFER TO VULNERABLE HOUSEHOLDS ~ INN Nigeria ☆

In a bold step to cushion the effects of economic hardship on vulnerable residents, the Lagos State Government has commenced the integration of the National Identification Number (NIN) into the Lagos State Single Social Register (LASSR), a subset of the National Social Register, as part of preparations to facilitate the Federal Government’s ₦75,000 cash transfer programme.

The development was announced by the Lagos State Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget, Mr. Ope George, during a statewide press conference held on Tuesday at the Ministry’s headquarters in Alausa, Ikeja.

According to the commissioner, the initiative comes in response to the economic challenges facing Nigerians, particularly the collapse of the foreign exchange window, the removal of fuel subsidies, and the Federal Government’s proposed rollout of a relief grant to mitigate rising living costs.

“The Federal Government, through the Presidential Panel, has directed that households on the National Register must be updated—particularly with NINs and geo-locations. Lagos State has successfully linked the NINs of 130,000 heads of households out of the 688,759 currently on its social register, in preparation for the ₦75,000 cash transfer per household,” George disclosed.

The integration process, which began on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, is being executed simultaneously across all 57 Local Government Areas (LGAs) and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) of the state. It is coordinated by the Social Protection Coordinating Department (SPCD) under the Ministry of Economic Planning and Budget, in collaboration with Community-Based Targeting Teams (CBTTs).

In his update, George revealed that within just one month of commencement, over 130,000 household heads have been successfully linked to their NINs across the 20 LGAs and 37 LCDAs of the state.

This significant progress, he noted, was made possible through grassroots mobilization, data collection, and engagement with community leaders to ensure inclusivity.

According to data released by the Ministry, Ikorodu LGA currently leads the NIN integration exercise with 16,418 household heads linked. Alimosho follows with 14,964, while Mushin has recorded 10,712.

Highlighting the scope of the exercise, George stated that the LASSR contains records of 688,759 household heads and a total of 2,681,507 individual members, enabling the government to accurately identify and support the most vulnerable residents.

“This initiative is more than just an update—it’s a transformative step in our commitment to ensuring that no resident is left behind in the delivery of social protection and intervention programs, in line with the THEMES+ Agenda of this administration,” the commissioner emphasized.

He further reiterated the state’s commitment to working in alignment with federal directives to deliver the ₦75,000 conditional cash transfer to eligible households, stressing the importance of proper identification and digital records in achieving transparency and efficiency.

The state government encouraged residents yet to complete the NIN linking process to cooperate with field officers, noting that only verified and updated data would be used to determine eligibility for the federal relief grant.
