Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, hosted an engagement session with all candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) vying for elective positions in the forthcoming local government elections. The strategic meeting took place at the Lagos House, Marina.

The stakeholders’ engagement, convened to prepare and inspire APC candidates ahead of the polls, centered on the importance of community engagement, teamwork, and accountable leadership at the grassroots level.

In his address, Governor Sanwo-Olu charged the candidates to go beyond conventional campaigning by deeply engaging with the communities they aspire to lead. He emphasized that winning public trust should take precedence over merely soliciting votes.

“Campaigning is more than asking for votes; it’s about showing up, being present, and building trust,” the Governor stated.
“Our people deserve leaders who are accessible, accountable, and committed to genuine service. That is the standard we must hold ourselves to.”

He further urged the aspirants to prioritize collaboration and synergy with their vice chairmen and other local government officials, noting that impactful leadership requires a unified and cooperative approach.

“Leadership is a team effort. You must work closely with your vice chairmen and other officials to drive real progress at the grassroots level, where it matters most,” he advised.

Governor Sanwo-Olu also reminded the candidates of the critical role local governments play in delivering democratic dividends directly to the people. He stressed that their leadership must reflect integrity, responsibility, and a passion for service.

The meeting marks a significant step in the APC’s preparation for the local government elections, as it aligns party candidates with the values of effective governance and people-oriented development that have defined the current administration.

The governor’s engagement with the candidates reinforces his commitment to ensuring that the APC fields candidates capable of sustaining the party’s legacy of performance and responsiveness at the community level.

In attendance at the event were members of the Governor’s cabinet, leaders of the Lagos Governance Advisory Council (GAC), and other key stakeholders from across the state, highlighting the seriousness of the APC’s approach to the upcoming elections and the broad support for grassroots-focused governance.

The forthcoming elections will determine leadership across the 57 Local Government Areas (LGAs) and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in Lagos State, making the forum a timely and strategic gathering in shaping the future of local administration in the state.
