Ikorodu, the second most populous city in Lagos State and the 12th largest in Nigeria, is abuzz with excitement as it prepares to celebrate a decade of transformative leadership under His Royal Majesty, Oba (Engr.) Dr. Kabiru Adewale Shotobi, GCIO, the Ayangburen of Ikorodu Kingdom.
Renowned for its rich cultural heritage and historical significance, the city stands as a beacon of tradition and progress.
As part of preparations for the landmark 10th Coronation Anniversary of its paramount ruler, the Media and Publicity Committee hosted a press conference on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, at the Ayangbure Palace, where it unveiled an exciting lineup of events to mark the occasion.
Chairing the well-attended event was the Chairman of the Media and Publicity Committee, Otunba Sir Ayodele Elesho, who delivered a warm welcome on behalf of the monarch.
He was flanked by key dignitaries, including Prince Aremo Shotobi, Secretary of the Committee; Mrs. Mutiat Ojulari, Iyaloja of Sabo; veteran journalists Omoba Peju Akinyemi; Mr. Kunle Adelabu; and Alhaji Jimoh Mufutau.
In his official address, Otunba Elesho, former Lagos State Commissioner for Information and the Agba Akin of Ikorodu, reflected on Oba Shotobi’s ascension to the throne on May 25, 2015, as the 20th Ayangburen of Ikorodu.
He recounted the monarch’s traditional rites and seclusion at “Ipebi”, culminating in the formal presentation of the crown at “Awofin,” the former Ayangbure Palace.
“The 10th Coronation Anniversary is not just a celebration of time, but of ten years of visionary leadership, cultural renaissance, and grassroots-driven development,” Elesho remarked.
“Under our revered monarch, Ikorodu has witnessed unprecedented transformation.”
He went on to highlight landmark achievements of Oba Shotobi’s reign.
Chief among them is the establishment of the Ikorodu Division Peace Initiative Limited (IDPIL), a strategic framework tackling critical issues such as security, healthcare, education, environmental sustainability, and road infrastructure.
Elesho also noted the town’s elevated status, pointing to Ikorodu’s 2022 recognition as the third-largest city in the South-West and the 12th largest in Nigeria—a testament to the growth experienced under the monarch’s watch.
A major highlight of the conference was the announcement of a weeklong programme of activities scheduled to run from August 2nd to 10th, 2025.

Beyond the festivities, Elesho also unveiled forthcoming developmental projects that underscore Oba Shotobi’s commitment to the welfare of his people.
These include the soon-to-be-commissioned Renal Centre, facilitated by High Chief Adewunmi Ogunsanya, the Odofin of Ikorodu, and a proposed orthopedic hospital site at Agbala.
He also revealed ongoing royal advocacy for the rehabilitation of the Ikorodu-Itokin Road, a major infrastructure priority for the region.
On security, the committee chairman gave assurances that robust measures will be in place throughout the celebration period to ensure the safety of all residents and visitors.
In his closing remarks, Otunba Sir Ayodele Elesho expressed gratitude to members of the press for their presence and support.
He encouraged widespread media coverage, describing the anniversary as “a historic and community-defining moment for the people of Ikorodu.”
