The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ikorodu Local Government Area has inaugurated a Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) Implementation Committee as part of efforts to deepen democratic participation and strengthen grassroots mobilization ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The inauguration ceremony took place on Monday, August 25, 2025, at the Ikorodu Local Government Secretariat on T.O.S. Benson Road, with party leaders, community representatives, and political stakeholders in attendance.
The CVR initiative, in partnership with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), is aimed at encouraging residents, especially first-time voters and those without valid Permanent Voter’s Cards (PVCs), to register and be eligible to participate in future elections.
The newly formed committee will be chaired by the APC Ikorodu Local Government Chairman, Alhaji Waheed Animashaun, while the Vice Chairman of the council, Hon. Babawale Bisiriyu Alogba, will serve as co-chairman.
Other key figures include Lagos East Senatorial APC Woman Leader, Deaconess Wonuola Aderibigbe Oshinowo, as the state representative; APC Ikorodu Secretary, Mr. Kehinde Ayanbadejo, who will oversee operations; and Aareebinrin Hon. Princess Dr. Folashade Olabanji-Oba, who will handle publicity.

The committee also features technical heads, ward chairmen, councillors, religious representatives, and the market leadership through the Iya Oloja General, ensuring a broad-based structure that cuts across political and community lines.
During the inauguration, Deaconess Oshinowo underscored the importance of voter registration as a foundation for effective participation in democracy.
She noted that Ikorodu’s reputation as one of Lagos State’s largest voting blocs must be preserved and expanded.
She explained that mobilizing more eligible residents to register would not only strengthen the division’s voice in electoral contests but also position it more favorably in the negotiations for the 2027 elections.
She hinted at the aspirations of Ikorodu stakeholders for the governorship, stressing that numbers will be the decisive factor in making such a demand realistic.
Princess Folashade Olabanji-Oba, former Vice Chairman of the local government and the committee’s publicity secretary, echoed this sentiment.
She pointed out that the CVR programme represents an opportunity for citizens to take ownership of their democratic rights. According to her, “Politics is all about numbers, and the PVC is the most powerful tool any citizen can wield.
Every resident must understand that their participation or refusal to participate carries consequences. The days of indifference should be over because democracy thrives only when people are actively engaged.”
She further explained that the committee had devised a structure that would make voter registration accessible across every geopolitical zone of the local government.

Each zone, she said, would have designated agents to assist residents with registration, while community leaders — including councillors, traditional chiefs, youth leaders, market representatives, and religious stakeholders — would be actively involved in mobilization.
She added that the APC secretariat at Oke Ota-Ona had been fully equipped with ICT tools to support the process.
Olabanji-Oba also expressed gratitude to senior APC leaders in Ikorodu, including the division’s apex leader, Prince Abiodun Ogunleye, for what she described as “exemplary leadership that has kept Ikorodu united as one family under the party.”
She called on residents to see the exercise as part of a renewed hope for greater representation in Lagos State politics, insisting that, “Your PVC is your identity and your strongest weapon in building a better future.”
Meanwhile, preparations are already underway for the training of registration agents, scheduled to commence on Monday, September 1, 2025, at the APC secretariat.

The training will begin at 10 a.m., and only shortlisted agents who meet the set requirements will be admitted. According to the party chairman, Alhaji Animashaun, agents must appear in person, possess a high-capacity Android phone for the registration exercise, and must not be engaged in any other demanding employment.
The exercise is reserved strictly for youths, and preference will be given to those already familiar with similar registration processes. He warned that any nominee who fails to meet these conditions or skips the training would be replaced immediately.
The inauguration of the committee reflects APC’s determination to consolidate its dominance in Ikorodu while also aligning with INEC’s nationwide efforts to expand voter registration ahead of 2027.
Political observers note that Ikorodu has consistently delivered some of the highest voter turnouts in Lagos State, and the creation of this committee is seen as a strategic step to maintain that record and translate it into greater political leverage for the division.
For many residents, the CVR campaign also represents an opportunity to correct past lapses where eligible voters were disenfranchised due to failure to register or collect their PVCs.

With the training of agents and mobilization strategies already in motion, party leaders are confident that Ikorodu will once again assert itself as a major player in Lagos State politics, particularly as the countdown to the 2027 elections begins.
