‎Keme Balogun, Ikorodu — November 27, 2025

‎Keme Balogun Junior College came alive on Thursday as students, teachers, parents, and invited dignitaries gathered on the school premises for the 2025 Inter-House Sports Competition, a colourful and energetic event that showcased youthful talent, teamwork, and sporting excellence.

‎The annual competition, held on November 27, featured Prince Olaide Kayode, who attended as the Patron of Blue House.

His presence added prestige to the event, as he joined staff and guests in encouraging the young athletes and celebrating the spirit of sportsmanship within the school community.

‎Pupils were divided into four competing houses — Blue, Yellow, Green, and Purple — each displaying vibrant colours, chants, and coordinated march-past presentations that drew applause from spectators.

The sports festival included a variety of track and field events such as sprints, relay races, high jump, football, and other fun competitions tailored to engage junior students.

‎Prince Olaide Kayode, in his role as Patron of Blue House, commended the school for sustaining a tradition that promotes unity and healthy competition.

He encouraged the pupils to maintain dedication in both academics and sports, describing the event as “a platform that builds future champions.”

‎Mrs. Abiona Bolanle Rachael, Principal Keme Balogun Junior College, expressed gratitude to the Lagos State Government for its sustained support for public schools across the state.

She also acknowledged the efforts of the Commissioner for Education and the General Finance Secretary of the Education District, noting that their continuous backing has enabled students to thrive both academically and socially.

‎Mrs. Abiona emphasized that the Inter-House Sports Competition remains an important activity in Lagos State public schools because it ensures that students develop beyond the four walls of the classroom.

‎“Sports help students build confidence, team spirit, endurance, leadership skills, discipline, and a healthy body and mind,” she said. “These qualities, alongside academic learning, shape well-rounded individuals.”

‎She added that the event provides an avenue for students to showcase their talents in various activities, reminding them that every skill learned in school has value and potential for future opportunities.

‎“My advice to the students is that they should showcase their talents in every area of learning because no one knows which skill they may wish to pursue later in life,” she said.

“Many people today are building successful careers in sports and related activities. Combining academics with sports gives students more opportunities to progress in the future.”

‎Mrs. Abiona encouraged the students to embrace the competition as both a learning experience and a platform for self-discovery, stressing that sports and education together open multiple paths for success.

‎The House Mistress of Blue House, Mrs. Aderonke Elizabeth, expressed heartfelt appreciation to the school management for sustaining activities that promote the social and physical development of students.

‎Mrs. Elizabeth, who also serves as a teacher in the school, proudly described the Blue House spirit, noting that their slogan — “Strong as a storm, bold as the sea” — reflects the courage, unity, and determination of the students representing the house.

‎She commended the school for providing students with an opportunity to engage in sporting activities, stating that such events create a balanced environment for learning and growth.

‎“We really want to appreciate the school for bringing this kind of activity into our school,” she said.

“Everything should not be based on academics alone. Students should also enjoy the social part of school life and participate in what is happening around us. For this, we are grateful.”

‎Mrs. Elizabeth emphasized that inter-house sports help students interact, build confidence, and discover talents outside the classroom.

She encouraged learners to embrace both academic and extracurricular opportunities offered by the school.

‎The 2025 Inter-House Sports Competition at Keme Balogun Junior College concluded with excitement and celebration as Blue House emerge 3rd, Purple House 2nd and Green House emerged overall champions, following an outstanding display across multiple athletic events.

‎The 2025 Inter-House Sports Competition ended with excitement as the various houses awaited final results, marking another memorable milestone in the school’s extracurricular calendar.
