IKORODU, LAGOS – A total of 42 beneficiaries, comprising both indigenes and residents of Ikorodu who have completed their law degrees and are advancing toward their professional certification, have been granted financial support by the lawmaker representing Ikorodu Federal Constituency, Hon. Babajimi Adegoke Benson.
The presentation ceremony took place on February 27, 2026, at the federal lawmaker’s constituency secretariat in Ikorodu, drawing education stakeholders, aides, and family members of the beneficiaries.
The initiative is targeted at law graduates advancing their studies at the Nigerian Law School and other mandatory professional stages required for call to the Bar.
Explaining the rationale behind the intervention, Mayor Deen Sanwo-Ola, DG of Rep. Benson’s iCare Foundation said the lawmaker observed a recurring trend of graduates facing financial strain during their professional legal education.
According to him, many law graduates frequently approached the office seeking assistance to offset tuition and other compulsory fees.
This, he noted, prompted the establishment of a more organized and transparent support framework.
“We identified a pattern where graduates in professional training required urgent financial help. Rather than handling requests informally, a structured system was introduced to ensure fairness and prevent abuse,” he said.
Sanwo-Ola emphasized that the funding for the scheme comes directly from Rep. Benson’s personal resources and not from public funds.
“This is a personal commitment by the lawmaker. It is not financed by government allocations. He has chosen to invest his own resources in supporting these young professionals,” he added.
He urged the beneficiaries to justify the confidence reposed in them by excelling in their studies and upholding high ethical standards in their future careers.
Speaking on behalf of the lawmaker, his wife, Mrs. Olajumoke Benson, said the initiative reflects her husband’s deep understanding of the rigorous demands of legal training, having walked the same path himself.
“As a legal practitioner, he understands the academic and financial challenges that accompany professional law education. This support is intended to ease that burden,” she stated.
She encouraged the graduates to remain diligent, disciplined, and focused, stressing that professional success requires sustained hard work.
“You represent the future of this community. When you attain your full qualification and begin to thrive in your careers, remember to extend a helping hand to others,” she advised.
Among those present was the Education Secretary of Ikorodu Local Government Education Authority (LGEA), Hon. Taiwo Odumbo, who described the gesture as a strategic investment in human capital development within the constituency.
Some of the recipients described the support as timely and impactful.
Adebanjo Abdulrazaq said the financial assistance would help him address immediate academic obligations tied to his professional training.
“This contribution has come at a crucial time. It will go a long way in settling pressing educational expenses,” he remarked.
Similarly, Tolulope Hicks lauded the federal lawmaker for his generosity, describing him as a leader who consistently demonstrates concern for the welfare and advancement of young people.
The disbursement of ₦200,000 each to 42 law graduates underscores a strategic commitment to strengthening professional growth and capacity development within Ikorodu Federal Constituency.
By focusing on individuals at the final stage of their legal formation, the initiative aims to bridge the financial gap between academic achievement and full professional qualification.
