Residents of Banana Estate Community Development Association (CDA) Phase One Igbe-Lara in Igbogbo-Baiyeku Local Council Development Area have received a major electricity infrastructure boost following the delivery and installation of a new transformer by the Lagos State Government.
The transformer, delivered to the community on March 10, 2026, is part of the Lagos State Government’s Rural Electrification Initiative powered by Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu through the Office of Rural Development.
The intervention is aimed at expanding electricity access and improving power supply in emerging and underserved communities across the state.
Chairman of Banana Estate CDA, Mr. Sunday Etsu, expressed appreciation to the Lagos State Governor for approving the intervention, describing it as timely for the fast-growing community.
According to him, the provision and installation of the transformer will significantly improve electricity supply within the estate and support both residential and small-scale commercial activities.
He also commended the Special Adviser to the Governor on Rural Development, Nurudeen Yekinni Agbaje, for ensuring that the community’s request received prompt attention, leading to the approval, delivery, and installation of the transformer.
“The intervention is very timely for our community, and we are grateful to the Lagos State Government for responding to our request.”
“This will greatly improve the living conditions of residents and encourage further development in the estate,” Etsu stated.
Also speaking, the Chairman of Banana Estate Igbe Lara CDA Phase One, Mr. Keshinro Kamil, joined other residents in commending the state government for the electrification project, noting that access to stable electricity is critical for the development of any community.
He noted that the transformer will help reduce power challenges within the estate and support businesses and households that depend on electricity for daily activities.
Providing further insight into the project, Dr. Agbaje explained that the intervention followed a formal request submitted by the community to the Office of Rural Development.
He revealed that the office conducted a comprehensive needs assessment to determine the urgency and viability of the request before recommending it for approval by the Governor.
Commending Governor Sanwo-Olu for approving the intervention, Dr. Agbaje emphasized that the administration remains committed to extending development projects to underserved areas of Lagos State in line with its development blueprint.

He stated that the Governor’s THEMES Plus Agenda prioritizes inclusive development, particularly through infrastructure projects that directly improve the welfare of residents in rural and semi-urban communities.
“The community brought a request to the Office of Rural Development, which led to a needs assessment carried out by our team to ascertain the urgency of the intervention,” Dr. Agbaje explained.
He further noted that the Governor approved the transformer installation because his administration remains committed to ensuring that communities across Lagos State benefit from developmental projects.
“Other communities have benefited from this initiative across the state, and many more are set to benefit from it as we continue to extend rural electrification interventions to areas in need,” he added.
The transformer installation is expected to improve electricity distribution within Banana Estate and support the continued growth of communities within Igbogbo-Baiyeku Local Council Development Area, reinforcing the Lagos State Government’s commitment to grassroots infrastructure development.
