Residents of Igbo Oluwo Community in Ikorodu Local Government Area witnessed a significant milestone in their quest for improved infrastructure on Saturday, June 20, 2026, as the Member representing Ikorodu Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Rep. Babajimi Adegoke Benson, officially flagged off the construction of the long-awaited Igbo Oluwo Road.

The event attracted residents, community leaders, political stakeholders, youth representatives, party faithful and traditional institution representatives, all of whom gathered to witness the commencement of a project many described as a dream coming true for the community.

Addressing residents during the flag-off ceremony, Rep. Benson expressed appreciation for the trust and support the people of Igbo Oluwo and Ikorodu Division have consistently reposed in him over the years.

He acknowledged that despite several developmental interventions facilitated across the Federal Constituency since his election into the House of Representatives, the community had waited patiently for the construction of the road.

The lawmaker admitted that the project took longer than expected to materialise and thanked residents for their understanding, perseverance and unwavering confidence in his representation.

He assured them that the flag-off ceremony marked the beginning of the road’s transformation and another fulfilment of his commitment to delivering critical infrastructure across Ikorodu Federal Constituency.

Rep. Benson further urged residents to sustain their support for the progressive movement while encouraging greater voter participation ahead of the 2027 general elections.

According to him, Ikorodu Division has consistently distinguished itself as one of the highest voting blocs in Lagos State and Nigeria, and such democratic participation must be sustained.

Speaking at the event, the Executive Chairman of Ikorodu Local Government, Prince Adedayo Abdul-Lateef Ladega, commended Rep. Benson for his consistency in delivering developmental projects to communities across the constituency.

He described the federal lawmaker as a leader whose words can be trusted, noting that the Igbo Oluwo Road project was another clear demonstration of his commitment to fulfilling promises made to the people.

Also speaking, the Chairman of the Igbo Oluwo Community Development Association expressed gratitude to Rep. Benson for remembering the community and honouring the assurance he gave during the commissioning of the Eruwen Road project that Igbo Oluwo would soon have its turn.

According to him, the commencement of the road project has reinforced the confidence of residents in responsive representation.

The Youth President of Igbo Oluwo, Mr. Shola Sanusi, described the development as historic, noting that many residents never expected the project to commence this year.

While thanking the lawmaker for the intervention, he appealed for additional support in healthcare and youth empowerment programmes.

Shortly after the road flag-off ceremony, Rep. Benson proceeded to his constituency office in Ikorodu where he hosted the quarterly stakeholders’ meeting of the All Progressives Congress across Ikorodu Division.

The gathering was particularly significant as it marked the final stakeholders’ meeting with the outgoing party executives whose tenure recently came to an end across the six councils that make up Ikorodu Division.

In an emotional address, Rep. Benson thanked the outgoing executives for their sacrifices, commitment and invaluable contributions to the growth and stability of the party over the years.

He assured them that their service would not be forgotten and that the party would continue to appreciate their efforts.

He encouraged them to remain steadfast, loyal and committed to the progressive ideals of the party while reminding them that the task ahead remains critical.

The lawmaker called on party stakeholders to begin mobilising towards the reelection of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR; the election of Lagos State’s governorship candidate, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat; the reelection of Senator Adetokunbo Abiru; his own reelection bid; and the election of the party’s House of Assembly candidates.

According to him, Ikorodu Division has built a reputation as a stronghold of progressive politics and must once again deliver overwhelming victories for the APC in the coming elections.

Responding on behalf of the outgoing executives, several party leaders commended Rep. Benson for sustaining the quarterly stakeholders’ meeting over the years, describing it as one of the most effective platforms for party engagement, consultation and cohesion within the Division.

They thanked the federal lawmaker for his leadership, offered prayers for his continued success and reaffirmed their unwavering loyalty and commitment to the APC as preparations begin for the next electoral cycle.
