Babajimi Benson MHR took his party's campaign into the interior part of the region. Entrenched in Ikorodu North axis of the waterbed region, the campaign was received with utmost excitement and jubilation as the leadership of the wood market already publicised posters and leaflets of Rep. Benson across various shops ahead of his arrival. On appearance, Jimi Benson appreciated the massive number of women traders that turned up for his visit, expressing his profound joy in their warm reception and songs of praise. He also extended his recognition to the men and youths on standby. Without wasting time, Jimi Benson acknowledged gazing through the market space before he came, promising to install solar lights across the market stretch for traders to see at nighttime and also for security justifications. He also affirmed a borehole drilling for adequate water supply to the market, asserting that he'll further look into constructing a public toilet system for general demand use. His instant charitable gesture got the traders more delighted as they rained the lawmaker with praises and applause. Intimating the traders on the forthcoming elections, Rep. Benson asked the hyped-up market merchants if they were ready to vote for a new president in Nigeria, and they shouted the name of the All Progressive Congress presidential candidate (Bola Tinubu!), in response. The market women and men were also very happy to hear the name, 'Sanwo-Olu', mentioned by the federal lawmaker as the working Governor to re-elect. Jimi Benson prompted the market populace to extend the same passion towards voting for the Lagos East senatorial district representative, Senator Adetokunbo Mukahil Abiru. Furthermore, he implored the traders to vote for Ikorodu constituency 1 and 2 APC candidates, Hon. Gbolahan Ogunleye (OGA), and Hon. Abiodun Moshood Aro (AMA). Explaining to the traders that the fresh party candidates will provide quality representation on all fronts. Speaking to affirm their devotion, the entire market body led by Alhaji Lateef Shoberu and Alhaja Afusat Egbebi, replenished with excitement pledged their unwavering support to Rep. Benson and other flag-bearing candidates in APC, sounding their satisfaction with the leadership of the ruling party. Both Executive Vice Chairmen of Ikorodu North and Ikorodu West LCDA, Hon. SANWO-OLU DEPLOYS AIRCRAFT FOR AERIAL MAPPING OF LAGOS ®™√ INN Nigeria © fb img 16766134358374051310447661782727 Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has deployed a Cessna 406 aircraft for aerial mapping of the state in line with the government’s determination to ascertain the actual figures of buildings and the infrastructural strength of the State. Speaking during the inspection of the Aerial Survey Aircraft (ASA) for the 2023 Mapping and Update of the Lagos State Spatial Data Infrastructure for the eGIS Project at Dominion Hangar, Murtala Mohammed Local Airport, Ikeja, the capital of Lagos on Wednesday evening, Governor Sanwo-Olu said the aerial mapping will equally help in updating the state data. He said the exercise will also assist the Lagos State Government to plan adequately for the residents of the State. Governor Sanwo-Olu, who was represented by his deputy, Dr Obafemi Hamzat, said the exercise will form part of the state’s critical component of the Enterprise, Geographic Information System (EGIS) upgrade, which is aimed at providing a digital mapping platform. The Governor said the Cessna aircraft with the registration number ZS-SSY from South Africa, would conduct the exercise for at least four and half hours daily for about six weeks, depending on the weather, while it would also fly at 4,500ft below sea level. He said: “The aircraft has a huge camera. When it flies it can capture a coin. It flies relatively low at about 4,000ft below sea level. The essence is for it to capture everything that is in Lagos state. It can go and come back. There are layers of flying. The essence for us is to know what is in Lagos. It has a glider that can capture water and land. It would be flying for about four and a half hours daily, depending on the weather. “We have done it before. Lagos like any other city is dynamic. What we had five years ago is not what you have today. The international standard is to do it every five years so that you can update your database and everything. So, what it does is that you can map every inch of soil in your land, and various buildings where you have your allocations and sizes. "The essence is to know the data of your state and what that does is to enable you to plan. What you cannot measure, you cannot manage it. So, the essence for us is to be able to measure every inch of Lagos and its size. “For us, fortunately, the census is coming up in March. If you have all those gladder information, you can map it with your census and it determines everything. It allows you to have enormous data to plan for your citizens so that you don’t globe in the dark.” Governor Sanwo-Olu, who disclosed that the State Government had been carrying out the exercise since 2009 but chose to migrate to a bigger aircraft for more effectiveness and enhanced performance, urged Lagos residents not to panic when they see the aircraft pass through their domains in low altitude, stressing that it is for the benefit of all. Also speaking, the Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Enterprise, Geographic Information System (EGIS), and Planning Matters, Dr Olajide Babatunde, said the project would lead to the mapping of the state’s land, noting that after the successful mapping of the State, the government would also embark on the surveying of the land. He said the exercise was part of the projects of the enterprise geographic information system that Lagos State was building to be able to tackle some challenges bedevilling the state at the moment. "What we are doing now is mapping and thereafter we will do a survey. This will enable us to have our spatial data infrastructure complete. “Currently, our land use database shows that we have over 600,000 properties in the state. However, I know we have more than that. And you know if you don’t have a title deeds plan, you cannot even go to the Lagos State Parking Authority (LASPA)for building approval,” he said. Also speaking, Lagos State Commissioner for Science and Technology, Mr Hakeem Fahm, said the aircraft to be used for the exercise is equipped with a special camera, which showed that the State is leveraging the power of technology to do things accurately for the benefit of Lagos citizens. Fahm, who said he is so excited about the aerial mapping of Lagos State, said Governor Sanwo-Olu and his deputy, Dr Obafemi Hamzat are fully committed to making Lagos greater. The Cessna 406 aircraft operating team had been carrying out the exercise over the years in various African countries including Mozambique, Kenya, Cameroon, Burkina Faso, Niger and Rwanda.

Many commuters have resorted to trekking as a result of the traffic on the bridge. The traffic has extended to as far as the Majidun area of the road. Reporters on site of the incident, report that officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Agency are making frantic efforts to manage the gridlock that resulted from the incident. Reporting the incident on its Twitter handle, LASTMA wrote, “Two containers fell off the back of a trailer on the Mile 12 bridge in Kosofe, paralysing traffic movement on the bridge. “Vehicles are being detoured under the bridge. “Traffic backlog at Majidun.” The traffic management agency appealed for patience as it continued to battle the resulting gridlock.

‘IT’S MY RE-ELECTION GIFT’, SANWO-OLU SAYS AS HE INAUGURATES NEWLY-UPGRADED OBA SEKUMADE ROAD IN IKORODU ®™√ INN Nigeria © 3939k3k3knem8294525662510498491 Inauguration of the newly-upgraded Oba Sekumade Road in Ipakodo, Ikorodu Division, on Friday, moved the residents into spontaneous jubilation in a show of appreciation to Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for fulfilling his pledge. Sanwo-Olu commissioned the infrastructure, which now provides easy access to residential and industrial areas in Ibeshe, Igbogbo-Baiyeku, Ebute Ipakodo, Ikorodu town and Ipakodo Mega Jetty Terminal. The Governor also rehabilitated the failed sections of T.O.S Benson Road, covering a stretch of 500 metres. To ease vehicular congestion on the T.O.S Benson Road, a comprehensive junction improvement project was carried out by the State Government to diffuse traffic towards Ikorodu Roundabout. Commuters’ experience on Oba Sekumade Road was harrowing, given its deplorable conditions. This prompted the Government to list the 2.5-kilometre single-lane roadway in the State’s strategic emergency road rehabilitation programme and was awarded for comprehensive upgrading and expansion, using Continuously Reinforced Concrete Pavement (CRCP). The intervention saw the busy road upgraded from a single-lane to rigid concrete dual carriageway, thereby improving connectivity and bringing relief to commuting public plying the route. The road was the first major infrastructure project to be inaugurated by the Governor after he won his re-election two weeks ago. Sanwo-Olu described the commissioning as a “thank you” gift for the electorate in Ikorodu Division for turning out the second largest vote number that made his party, All Progressives Congress (APC), to win the last gubernatorial election. He said: “Today, we have come back to Ikorodu Division to show our appreciation and say big ‘Thank You’ to Ikorodu residents for keeping faith with our Government. This town has been good to our party with its outstanding voters’ support during elections. What else can we do to demonstrate our appreciation other than to come to this important base of Lagos heritage and hand over a gift of infrastructure that will bring huge benefits to the people. “The commissioning of Oba Sekumade Road and the rehabilitation of T.O.S Benson Road point to another demonstration of what purposeful governance is all about. These projects reflect our commitment to delivering dividends of democracy and ensuring that development touches every nook and cranny of Lagos. These projects are strategic to strengthen various interventions initiated to improve traffic management on this axis. The hardship being experienced by drivers has been resolved, as we have enhanced connectivity and reduced journey time.” Sanwo-Olu said the Ikorodu Division would further reap more infrastructure benefits during his second term, stressing that the State Government had gotten the assurance of contractors to accelerate construction work on other infrastructure projects being constructed in the area. The Governor particularly mentioned the ongoing construction of Agric-Isawo Road, which the contractor had pushed to 60 per cent completion. He pledged there would be an improvement in the pace of work on the Ewu Elepe-Gberigbe Road, Igbogbo-Bola Ahmed Tinubu Road and Adamo-Agunfoye Road construction. He also charged Lagos State Public Works Corporation to race up the work on Igbogbo-Baiyeku Road to improve connectivity within the axis. Sanwo-Olu said the traffic interchange being developed at Ita Elewa Roundabout will change the transportation landscape of Ikorodu when completed. The project, currently at 55 per cent completion, will open a new BRT corridor within Ikorodu. He said: “What we are about is ensuring that the next four years come with bigger dividends delivered faster than we have done in our first tenure. There will be accelerated development across the city in the next dispensation. Ikorodu is part of the Greater Lagos that is rising. “In the next couple of months, we will be doing groundbreaking for the Fourth Mainland Bridge, which will cut across major sections on Sagamu-Ikorodu Expressway before finally opening to Lagos Ibadan Expressway. We are committed to delivering this project in our second term to completely open Ikorodu to the world.” Special Adviser to the Governor on Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Aramide Adeyoye said the upgrade of Oba Sekumade Road to a rigid pavement dual carriageway did not only solve traffic problems experienced on the highway but also solved flooding issues threatening adjoining residential communities. She said the State Government’s insistence on sustainable infrastructure, adequate drainage channels, and quality lighting facilities on the road underscored the Sanwo-Olu administration's commitment to high standards. “I believe that with the rehabilitation and upgrade of this road, the challenge of flooding and inadequate capacity will now become a thing of the past. This in turn will also translate into the improved free flow of traffic and a much-needed reduction in travel time for the business owners in the area and the motoring public at large,” she said. The Sekumade of Ipakodo, Oba Bashiru Shotonwa, described the development as ”historic”, noting that the road remained significant for the socio-economic development of Ikorodu. The traditional ruler said the road condition worsened due to the influx of manufacturing companies and residential development, which mounted pressure on its usage. “Mr Governor, by fulfilling your promise to us today, you have written your name in gold in the history of Ipakodo. We will continue to remember your name for good,” Oba Shotonwa said. The member representing Ikorodu II in the House of Assembly, Hon. Sanai Agunbiade, said the huge votes turned out from Ikorodu were to reciprocate the Governor’s gesture towards renewing infrastructure in the town. The lawmaker said the rehabilitation of TOS Benson Road was the icing on the cake, as it was not part of the original project. “These roads have brought huge relief to commuters on this axis and we can now say goodbye to flooding of our streets,” Agunbiade said.

Mudashiru Obasa and other lawmakers-elect received their Certificate of Return from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Thursday promising to ensure a greater Lagos at the 10th Assembly. "On behalf of my colleagues, we will continue to build on the success of the current Assembly when we resume for the 10th Assembly. We want to assure Lagosians that we will continue to make laws and pass motions and resolutions that will bring progress to Lagos and protect the interests of residents. "That's the assurance that I have from the 39 other members-elect," Dr Obasa told journalists at the event which had Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat in attendance. A total of 38 lawmakers-elect from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and two from the opposition received their Certificate of Return. The Speaker thanked his constituents in Agege and Lagosians for their support for the APC. "I thank my people in Agege for their consistency, loyalty and support at all times. And to Lagosians, we say thank you. At least APC has 38 lawmakers-elect out of the 40 for the House of Assembly. We have three senatorial seats and a whole lot in the House of Representatives. We are very happy about this and have reasons to thank Lagosians. "We are going to support the Governor in his assignments to bring growth and progress to Lagos State as well as protect the lives and property of our people. However, supporting the executive arm does not mean we are going to compromise or abandon our constitutionally guaranteed responsibilities," Obasa said.
