ADESINA VOUCH TO GROOM WHIPPER AS ORIWU SENIOR COLLEGE & METHODIST PRIMARY SCHOOL WINS YEAR 2021 SPELLING BEE COMPETITION IN IKORODU LOCAL GOVERNMENT ®™√ INN Nigeria ©

Ikorodu Local Government council Boss, Hon Wasiu Adesina hosted year 2021 spelling bee competition at the local government secretariat on the 6th of October 2021.

The competition which saw 9 secondary schools and 14 primary across the local government participating in the intellectual tournament, welcomed stakeholders within Ikorodu division gracing the event plus delegates from the ministry of education lagos state on a supervisory assignment and representatives from the lagos state education district 2.

Coordinated by Spelling Bee officials Mr John Wesley (quizmaster) and Mrs Feliyah Adenike (timekeeper), the competition was segmented into 2 stages which saw the primary tournament taking the lead before the secondary subsequent phases.

Speaking before the competition proper, Mrs Abolanle Adesina (Chairperson of the event and wife of Ikorodu LG council boss), appreciated schools across the local government for participating while at the same inserting the significance of the competition.

“As we witness yet another annual Spelling-bee Competition, this educational event has continued to gain wide recognition and contested amongst the pupils and students in our Public Primary and Secondary Schools”

“The competition has greatly helped in increasing the knowledge and ability of our pupils and students in English Language
vocabulary. lt is very necessary at this point, to commend the great efforts of Senator Oluremi Tinubu, who is the founder of the New Era Foundation and the annual Spelling Bee Competition”

“The Spelling-Bee Competition has helped in great measures to improve the word spellings and pronunciation among our pupils and students. We also appreciate the wife of the Executive Governor of Lagos State (Dr Ibijoke Sanwoolu) who recognises the value of Education in our children with her impact and support for the continuous presentation of Spelling Bee Competition in our schools”

“We eagerly look forward to having new winners to emerge in this year 2021 Spelling Bee Competition here in lkorodu Local Government because the Competition serves as an eye-opener in English Language lexis and structure, while fostering good communication skills, not only among the youths, but adults as well”

“This Competition is also an avenue to establish the spirit of tolerance and noble sportsmanship among our children, and it engages them in exciting educational adventures, rather than spending time in idleness. I equally want to implore youths to shun any acts of lawlessness such as thuggery and violence which could disrupt their future” Mrs Abolanle Adesina Asserted

At the end of the spelling bees competition, Paul Benita from Aga primary school took the 3rd position, Tobias Juliet from Temidire primary school took the 2nd position while Busayo Aiyekomilogbon from Methodist primary school clinched the first position. In the secondary category, Chukwuemeka Emmanuel from Gberigbe community senior grammar school took 3rd, Paul precious from Yewa Snr grammar school took 2nd and Abdul-Azeez Adul-Rahman from Oriwu senior college emerged 1st position.

“It is wonderful to see the 3 schools that emerged victoriously were the same school that attended the Lagos state holiday coaching sessions here in Ikorodu, it shows that when you’re hyper-responsive to intellectual activities, you’ll come out in flying colours” Mrs Akintayo T.A (Education District 2)

“This is a State programme and we must commend the effort of the local government for their support. Parents need to help their children stay calm while the spelling bee proceeded. Some parents were not quiet during the process which can distract the children. Teachers should also control the none participating students during the process. 1st and 2nd runners up at the grand finale will be sponsored to Finland for an international spelling competition. So it means after this, winners will face others at the state level so we advise them to get the free book issued by the state government to enhance their spelling abilities” Mr Akodu (Director of Special Programmes and Intervention Office for quality Education)

Prior to the gift presentation, Hon Wasiu Adesina (Executive Chairman Ikorodu LG) applauded the Lagos state government for staying consistent in promoting the means to quality education for students across the state.

“Spelling Bee competition has become a tradition in Lagos State Ministry of Education since the foundation was laid by Senator
Oluremi Tinubu (former First Lady of Lagos State), who is also the wife of the All Progressives Congress National Leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. This competition has indeed made Lagosians proud as it motivates pupils and students to concentrate on education, particularly, spelling and writing English words correctly”

“The tense nature of this competition has clearly shown the significance for students to learn how to spell better, it’s a daily upgrade attitude which will steadily help any young scholar to grow academically”

“We appreciate the Lagos state government for spearheading this initiative to help our students. For the winners, the local government will take charge of their grooming process as they gear towards the state-level championship. We will establish a training exercise for them that will keep them sound as they prepare for the competition ahead” Hon Wasiu Adesina Added

Free school bags were subsequently given to all participants courtesy Hon Wasiu Adesina.

Other special guests in attendance were; Alhaji Musiliu Sulaiman, Alhaji Waheed Animashaun, Albaji Odunsi (LGEA Representative), Hon Adebola Adebowale, Hon Fatuga Mutiat, Hon Shotomiwa Fatiu, Hon Buraimoh Oluwakemi, Hon Awolesi Omotayo, Hon Oshikoya Oladimeji, Mrs Aderibigbe Oshinowo, Alhaji Folorunsho Lamidi, Comrade Adenike Mabodu (NULGE Chairman), WADESH Babes, Hon Idris Shokunbi, Hon Oladimeji Oshikoya and Comrade Idris Omotayo.
