HEALTH SERVICE COMMISSION ASSESSMENT TEAM VISITS GH IKORODU ®™√ INN Nigeria ©

The Lagos State Health Service Commission (HSC) led by the Board Chairman, Dr. (Mrs.) Atinuke Onayiga and other board members visited General Hospital Ikorodu on Thursday, 25th August 2022 on a monitoring and evaluation visit.

They were received by members of the hospital management committee in the conference room of the hospital.

In his welcome address the Medical Director/CEO, General Hospital, Ikorodu, Dr Taiwo K. Hassan, affirmed that the Health Service Commission’s visit has always been a welcomed one as it gives an unbiased and on-the-spot assessment of the hospital’s achievements.

Enunciating the numerous accomplishments of the hospital since the last visit of the team, Dr Taiwo Hassan revealed that the hospital-patient elevator, which had been on the front burner of the hospital’s to-do list, would soon be completed. In his words, “The elevator would ease the transfer of patients to and fro theatre/wards, accident and emergency unit.

Furthermore, the Medical Director/CEO revealed that the Anatomic Pathology Laboratory now offers histopathology and autopsy services. Also worthy of mention was the Birthing Suite at the Labour Ward, the High Dependency Unit (HDU), the Electronic Medical Records (EMR), improved services at Agbala and Imota Health Centres, staff capacity development to improve competency as well as other staff welfare initiatives.

According to Dr Hassan, “Our ultimate goal is for our health facility to become a teaching hospital of global standard, where people from other countries would come to receive medical attention.” He, however, mentioned the challenges faced by the hospital, of which medical staff attrition hits the worst.

The Chairman, Health Service Commission, Dr. (Mrs.) Atinuke Onayiga, in her speech, stated that the progress made in the hospital within a year was phenomenal. In her words, “The reason for coming here is not to witch-hunt but to give quality suggestions and recommendations on how to improve the hospital. I can see that all the recommendations we made during the last visit had been put to good use. “Kudos to the hospital management,” She said.

Dr Onayiga advised the management team to remove all encumbrances and focus on making GH Ikorodu a global standard health facility.

Members of the team include; Dr Olumuyiwa Adetokunbo Solanke (Commissioner 1), Dr Mobolaji Ayotunde Olukoya (Commissioner 2), Dr Olugbenga Oyekan (Director of Medical Services) and Mrs Oluwatosin Owuade (Director, Admin & Human Resource), Dr Adedoyin Fatuga among others.
