In the early hours of the day, the club officially unsealed its legacy project, consisting of a block of reception, ward and doctor's consultation room at Ikorodu General Hospital Agbala Annex.
Commissioned by HRM, Oba Kabiru Adewale Shotobi, Ayangbure of Ikorodu Kingdom, the project obtained high praises from stakeholders across Ikorodu division, with the club's president, Otunba Amid Adekunle Oduborisa sitting in the front row of the accolades.
According to the Ayangbure of Ikorodu, the health project falls into the category of efforts that will stand the test of time, because it is meant to save lives.
"There is a reason Amid Oduborisa became the president of Oriwu Club Ikorodu at this duration, this project justifies that he's the perfect leader to preside over the club during this 50th anniversary".
"Agbala Health Centre is the first in Ikorodu and everyone knows the role it plays, for Oriwu club to build this edifice to give the health structure new relevance shows what the club stands for".
"I want to appreciate Oriwu Club Ikorodu for actualising this project, I pray God will continue to supply the club to do more" Oba Shotobi said.
Speaking to Ikorodu News Network (INN), Otunba Amid Adekunle Oduborisa disclosed that the legacy project (General Hospital Ikorodu, Agbala Annex) building consists of a block of reception, wards and Doctors' Consulting Rooms.
According to him, the Legacy Project, with a reconstruction cost of over Thirty Million Naira (N3OM), will improve access to quality and affordable healthcare services for the people of Ikorodu.
He continued, "To meet the basic functional requirements, the hospital building demanded (from Oriwu Club Ikorodu) an estimated amount of Twenty Million Naira (N20M) for furniture and medical equipment.
"I want to salute my ever-resourceful team for their doggedness, teamwork, and industrious efforts towards promoting the good face of this club and its members".
"My special recognition also goes to the 50th Anniversary Committee for its dedication to duties in organising these anniversary events" Oduborisa asserted.

The set of four girls who are the first birth of the family of Mr and Mrs Dayo Faniyi were delivered at Ikorodu General Hospital, Ikorodu. General Manager, of Lagos State Health Management Agency (LASHMA), Dr Emmanuella Zamba, speaking during a visit to the hospital commended the Medical Director, of Ikorodu General Hospital, Dr Taiwo Hassan and the entire staff for a job well done. She added that the highest number of birth recorded on the Lagos State Health Scheme (LSHS) was triplets and that the Agency was extremely delighted in recording another milestone birth. Dr Zamba said that since the full commencement of the Scheme in the Year 2020, 47 sets of triplets and 435 sets of twins had been delivered on the Scheme. Describing the birth as miraculous, she congratulated the parents of the Quadruplets on the safe delivery of the babies and promised that the Lagos State Health Management Agency (LASHMA) would do its best to ensure that the babies have access to medical care when due. General Manager urged residents in the State who are yet to enrol, to immediately tap into the opportunity provided by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, in ensuring that every resident has access to quality and affordable healthcare. She reminded that there is also an opportunity to pay by instalment for any resident who could not afford to pay an N8,500 premium per annum for the ILERA EKO individual plan or N40,000 per annum for the ILERA EKO family plan comprising of the father, mother and four children below 23 years old. The Medical Director, of Ikorodu General Hospital, Dr Taiwo Hassan, said that the facility would continue to partner with the Lagos State Health Management Agency (LASHMA) to give quality healthcare to the residents of Ikorodu and its environs. He pledged that the Hospital would continue to improve the standard of healthcare delivered to ILERA EKO Enrollees. Mr Dayo Faniyi, father of the babies and a town planner with Isolo Local Council Development Area, commended Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, for his commitment to ensuring that ILERA EKO becomes a reality. He said, "ILERA EKO is a great relief to me, if not for the Governor, I wonder how much I would have paid in a government hospital for the delivery of my four babies". He added that he would have been running helter-skelter to get money to pay for the operation of his wife, Mrs Adeola Faniyi and the babies, especially at this crucial time when money is so difficult to get in Nigeria, if not for the good gesture of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and ILERA EKO. Describing the birth as mixed blessings, he appealed to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to support him in taking care of the babies as the load, he said, "is too heavy for him". He also called on prominent individuals and groups, home and abroad, to partner with the Lagos State Government in the provision of health insurance coverage for all in the State so the residents have relief in the payment of their medical bills. Mrs Adeola Faniyi, the mother of the Quadruplets and a Fashion Designer, said that she was highly surprised that right from her antenatal to delivery and post-delivery, no tangible payment was made except those few items that are not covered on the Scheme. She thanked the Doctors and Nurses for taking good care of her while accessing care at the hospital. She, therefore, implored all to be part of ILERA EKO, as the health insurance scheme is real and highly rewarding.

Taking rolls for a free medical check-up, the palace of the sekumade of Ipakodo was saturated by medical staff from Ikorodu general hospital, offering various measures to the residents.
From Olori of Ipakodo Kingdom, Baales, chiefs, small-scale business owners and school students, the synergy between the Ipakodo day celebration and Ikorodu general hospital got legatee excited as the celebration brilliantly implemented its day 2 agendas.
The free medical program presented tests on high blood pressure (BP), eye deficiencies, sugar level, teeth aches and others, with also provision of free drugs for patients that required extra attention.
Presided over by Dr Taiwo Hassan, CEO/Executive Director, Ikorodu general hospital, the procedure obtained high praise from HRM, Oba Bashiru Aremu Shotonwa, Sekumade of Ipakodo as subsequent guidance was allotted to patients with intricate health cases.

83i3j2nwmmmm5590159271529650647 The Lagos State Health Service Commission (HSC) led by the Board Chairman, Dr. (Mrs.) Atinuke Onayiga and other board members visited General Hospital Ikorodu on Thursday, 25th August 2022 on a monitoring and evaluation visit.
They were received by members of the hospital management committee in the conference room of the hospital.
In his welcome address the Medical Director/CEO, General Hospital, Ikorodu, Dr Taiwo K. Hassan, affirmed that the Health Service Commission’s visit has always been a welcomed one as it gives an unbiased and on-the-spot assessment of the hospital’s achievements.
Enunciating the numerous accomplishments of the hospital since the last visit of the team, Dr Taiwo Hassan revealed that the hospital-patient elevator, which had been on the front burner of the hospital’s to-do list, would soon be completed. In his words, “The elevator would ease the transfer of patients to and fro theatre/wards, accident and emergency unit.
Furthermore, the Medical Director/CEO revealed that the Anatomic Pathology Laboratory now offers histopathology and autopsy services. Also worthy of mention was the Birthing Suite at the Labour Ward, the High Dependency Unit (HDU), the Electronic Medical Records (EMR), improved services at Agbala and Imota Health Centres, staff capacity development to improve competency as well as other staff welfare initiatives.
According to Dr Hassan, “Our ultimate goal is for our health facility to become a teaching hospital of global standard, where people from other countries would come to receive medical attention.” He, however, mentioned the challenges faced by the hospital, of which medical staff attrition hits the worst.
The Chairman, Health Service Commission, Dr. (Mrs.) Atinuke Onayiga, in her speech, stated that the progress made in the hospital within a year was phenomenal. In her words, “The reason for coming here is not to witch-hunt but to give quality suggestions and recommendations on how to improve the hospital. I can see that all the recommendations we made during the last visit had been put to good use. “Kudos to the hospital management,” She said.
Dr Onayiga advised the management team to remove all encumbrances and focus on making GH Ikorodu a global standard health facility.
