Day 7 of the 31st Ikorodu Oga Day, billed for Public Service day, Networking, Reunion and Award Presentation took place at Ikorodu Ultra Modern Town Hall on the 18th of November 2022.
The ceremony which was presided over by the Ayangburen of Ikorodu Kingdom, Oba Kabiru Adewale Shotobi, is aimed at celebrating and recognising the Illustrious sons, daughters and residents of Ikorodu in the Public Service.
The theme, Public Service and Community Development: Changing the Narrative of Yesterday, is concentrated on enriching the creative alliance between Ikorodu-Oga Development Association and the Public Service.
Citing the critical role played by the public service as the engine room of government and a principal facilitator in delivering good governance, Public service Day primarily intends to accentuate and admire the virtue and contributions of public institutions and public service in the development of the community and Nation building as a whole.
Rotimi Erogbogbo, Chairman, of Ikorodu Oga Development Association, in his speech, stated that the celebration should be used to refocus public servants on the changes within the division to sustain the momentum of growth and development.
Adding that IKODASS will proceed to strategically aid the public service sector with capacity-enhancing interventions, as it did with the teachers union.
He continued, “We are going to facilitate the revitalisation of Ikorodu Public Service focus to foster renewed development and networking among Ikorodu public servants”.
Enjoining stakeholders to rise to the occasion by proffering innovative solutions, Erogbogbo urged guests to proactively find solutions to emerging challenges.
To the recipient’s occasions awards, he concluded that they’ve been found apt amidst several others, compelling them to remain committed and continue to exhibit the time-tested ethos, traditions and values of probity, honesty, transparency, integrity, hard work and excellent service delivery for which Ikorodu is known.
According to the keynote lecturer, Mr Lanre Kuye, Public Servants are key individuals who are positioned to implement government policies and carry out most of the proposals undertaken by the government.
Additionally, though most of the public servants in Ikorodu as scattered around the LG/LCDAs, he said they’re bonded by the singular stance to effect good governance which has bonded their strive as revealed by Ikorodu Oga Day celebration dedicated networking program amongst public servants.
“I consider the public servants as a community with common interests, and whenever they are positioned in the government, their utmost priority is to bring development to their community”.
“In changing the narrative, all we can do is survey what we’ve been accomplishing before and enhance what is performing presently to make extra progress”.
Expressing that there’s also a synergy between public service and CDA, even to LASUSTECH, Mr Lanre Kuye explained that the development of a man is the direct upgrade of any neighbourhood which must not be taken with levity.
“Also, To change the description, we must submit before ourselves a situation analysis, with a clear aim and objectives to tackle challenges. Just as our Kabiesi has a role to play, stakeholders also have responsibilities ” He concluded.
At the high point of the ceremony; Dr Abiodun Fatai Abatan, Mr Akeem Bello, Prince Taiwo Odumbo, Bldr Adeola Adebisi Banjo, Mr Adebayo Ayodeji, Mrs Adetutu Oluremi, Dr Oluremi Nurudeen, Mr Bolaji Oreagba, Mr Folarin Abidemi, Mr Sheriff Akinpelu, Comrade Okeowo Kehinde, Shotonwa Titilayo, Monsirat Kasali and Ijede LCDA were given public service awards.
