Gearing towards grassroots empowerment, Dr Nurudeen Agbaje, Special Adviser to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Rural Development, delivered a forward-looking message to Community Leaders on the 10th of January 2024, at the annual leadership training organised by the Office of Rural Development.

The address, delivered during a unique gathering that blended advisory insights with practical training, showcased the government’s dedication to fostering sustainable growth at the local level.

Dr. Agbaje began by commending the active participation of Community Leaders in the 2023 Community Day celebrations, expressing heartfelt appreciation for their unwavering commitment to community welfare.

Seizing the opportunity, he provided strategic advice, urging leaders to align their self-help projects with the comprehensive T.H.E.M.E.S Plus Agenda of the state government.

The T.H.E.M.E.S Plus Agenda encompasses critical themes such as Traffic Management and Transportation, Health and Environment, Education and Technology, Making Lagos a 21st Century Economy, Entertainment and Tourism, and Security and Governance.

Dr Agbaje underscored the transformative potential of aligning community initiatives with these themes, emphasizing the collective impact on shaping Lagos’s development trajectory.

A notable highlight of Dr. Agbaje’s address was his emphasis on the power of social media to amplify the impact of community projects.

Recognizing the influence of the digital era, he highlighted the potential of leveraging platforms to showcase and promote various self-help initiatives, aiming to raise awareness, garner support, and connect communities with a broader audience.

Beyond serving as an advisory platform, the gathering also included a training session for Community Leaders.

According to Dr Agbaje, “This hands-on component aimed to equip leaders with the skills and knowledge necessary to execute and manage their self-help projects effectively”.
