Oriwu College field in Ikorodu was the venue on January 11, 2024, as Mr Akeem Bello, acclaimed as the 2023 best administrator in Nigeria, bid a fond farewell to his role as the Principal of Oriwu Senior College Ikorodu on the occasion of his 60th birthday and retirement.

The event, graced by prominent figures from the Lagos State Education District 2 and members of the Oriwu College Old Students Association (OCOSAN), showcased a remarkable display of unity and support for the esteemed outgoing principal.

Adding an extra layer of vibrancy, a special dance presentation by both Oriwu Junior and Senior College students mesmerized the audience.

The celebration reached its pinnacle with various departments of the school presenting heartfelt parting gifts and words of goodwill to Mr. Bello whose wife and children were also present to celebrate with him.

Chief Ishola Lemomu, Chairman of the OCOSAN Board of Trustees, extolled Mr. Akeem Bello as a quintessential administrator, expressing pride in the outgoing principal’s remarkable achievements during his tenure.

Former Majority Leader of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. SOB Agunbiade, illuminated Mr. Bello’s unwavering dedication and commitment to excellence in the educational sector.

Recalling their shared academic history, Agunbiade commended the outgoing principal for his passion to serve, attributing it to his numerous accomplishments.

In a stirring address, Chairman of the National Union of Teachers (NUT) Ikorodu Branch, Comrade Fakolade Oluwafemi Oluwaseun JP, described Mr Akeem Bello as a disciplinarian with a difference.

He applauded the outgoing principal’s overall performance and impact, emphasizing his love for both students and teachers.

During the event, Mr. Akeem Bello introduced his successor, Mrs. Agnes Elusakin, expressing confidence in her ability to maintain high academic standards.

The ceremony climaxed with Mr Bello’s official signing out of the office and the cutting of his 60th birthday cake, followed by an atmosphere filled with joyful music and dance.

Subsequently speaking to Ikorodu News Network (INN), Oriwu Junior College Administrator and the event anchor, Mrs Adefunke Oluranti Esan, explained that as Mr Akeem Bello embarks on the journey of retirement, the echoes of accolades and praises for his outstanding contributions to education resonate, marking a memorable milestone in the history of Oriwu Senior College Ikorodu.

Former commissioner for Information in Lagos State, Otunba Ayodele Elesho, Mrs Abike Adekanye, Tutor General/Permanent Secretary Education District 2 and executive members of the Nigeria Union of Teachers NUT Ikorodu Branch were also in attendance.
