On November 11, 2024, Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu officially swore in Barrister Rekiya Olufunke Hassan as the new substantive chairman of Onigbongbo Local Council Development Area (LCDA).
The appointment follows the untimely passing of the former chairman, Honourable Oladotun Olakanle, who served the council with dedication until his demise.
In a ceremony filled with significance, Governor Sanwo-Olu expressed his confidence in Barrister Hassan’s leadership abilities, underscoring that her swearing-in represents a seamless continuation of the good governance model established under the late chairman’s tenure.
The governor highlighted the resilience and strength of the Onigbongbo people, noting that despite the loss of their former leader, the local community remains committed to progress, unity, and development.
“Today marks not just a transition in leadership but a reaffirmation of our collective commitment to the development of Onigbongbo and Lagos State. Barrister Rekiya Hassan is here to continue the work of progress and prosperity, ensuring that our people are served with utmost dedication,” Governor Sanwo-Olu remarked during the ceremony
Barrister Hassan, a seasoned leader, comes into her new role with a wealth of experience.
Prior to her appointment as chairman, she served as Supervisor for the Council’s Department of Agriculture and Social Services, where she was instrumental in driving community-oriented initiatives that benefited the local population.
Her deep understanding of the issues faced by the people, particularly in the areas of agriculture, social welfare, and local services, positions her as a capable and visionary leader for the Onigbongbo LCDA.
In her acceptance speech, Barrister Hassan expressed her gratitude for the trust placed in her and reaffirmed her commitment to advancing the developmental agenda of the council.
“I am honoured by this appointment, and I promise to serve with integrity, passion, and dedication. Together, we will continue to foster sustainable growth, improve infrastructure, and enhance the quality of life for all residents of Onigbongbo,” she said.
Her leadership is expected to usher in continued efforts to address key issues such as youth development, healthcare, environmental sustainability, and the enhancement of local governance.
The swearing-in ceremony was attended by prominent political leaders, community stakeholders, and residents of Onigbongbo, all of whom expressed their support for Barrister Hassan’s leadership.
