The Executive Chairman of Ikorodu Local Government, Hon. Wasiu Adesina launched two transformative projects on November 11, 2024, aimed at enhancing both education and infrastructure in the community.

The first project, a one-block “Legacy Building” for African Bethel Primary School in Ward D, seeks to elevate the educational experience for young students, while the second project introduces dual-side drainage systems for Dada Street in Itunpate, Ikorodu, to address flooding and improve access.

The African Bethel Legacy Building, located in Ikorodu’s Ward D, is designed to cater to the growing educational needs of the community.

This state-of-the-art structure houses four classrooms, a teachers’ office, restrooms, ceiling fans, and furniture, creating a modern and welcoming environment for learning.

Hon. Adesina highlighted the importance of the school’s legacy in the area, saying, “The school is located in a very strategic area in Ikorodu and has produced many illustrious sons and daughters. It is only right that we add value to the structure.”

He assured the community that this investment would prevent the building from deteriorating and emphasized, “We’ll ensure it meets the required standards, just as we did at Salvation Army.”

In appreciation of the project, Mrs. Fatola, the head teacher of African Bethel Primary School, expressed gratitude for the chairman’s initiative, encouraging continued support for educational development.

Ikorodu Local Government Vice Chairman, Mrs. Folashade Olabanji-Oba, commended Hon. Adesina for his commitment to education, remarking, “Hearing the chairman speak about his plans for the school gladdens my heart because future leaders will benefit greatly from this project. He’s a classic example of a promise made and kept.”

The second project, a dual-side drainage system on Dada Street, is a major infrastructural improvement for Itunpate.

This street, which holds cultural significance as the base of the Olumale of Eluku, is a vital route that links to other significant roads within Ikorodu.

Hon. Adesina explained, “Dada Street is very important to us here. We have also worked on Sanni Arowolo and Otayombo streets, which link to Dada Street and lead to Ota-Ona in Ikorodu. These are strategic routes, and as indigenes, we understand their significance.”

The chairman also announced plans to install streetlights along Dada Street upon project completion to enhance safety and usability.

He urged residents to remain patient during construction, assuring them of the long-term benefits and highlighting plans to hand over the project to the Community Development Association (CDA) for ongoing maintenance.

Community leaders applauded Hon. Adesina’s efforts. Mr. Lookman Ajalogun, Ward D Chairman, praised him for his dedication to grassroots development, while Comrade Abolade Arogunre, the Itunpate CDA Chairman, presented a special portrait to Hon. Adesina recognizes his commitment to the community.

Rounding off his address, Hon. Adesina outlined future projects, including plans to provide an official bus for local community leaders, improvements for CDC Chairman Road and Eleshin Road, and an additional classroom block for Muslim A Primary School.

Chief Olabanji Oriagba, the Olumale of Ikorodu, praised Hon. Adesina’s dedication to the community’s advancement, especially the drainage project, will significantly ease access along Dada Street.

“These dual projects reflect Hon. Adesina’s continued commitment to Ikorodu’s growth and development, reinforcing his vision of sustainable infrastructure and quality education for the future,” Chief Oriagba asserted.
