Builder (Dr.) Deola Banjo, the immediate past Executive Chairman of Ikorodu North Local Council Development Area (LCDA), hosted an exclusive appreciation get-together with leading media professionals from Ikorodu Division on Tuesday, August 6th, 2024, in a show of gratitude and humility.
The informal gathering, held in Ikorodu, served as a heartfelt thank-you to journalists and media executives who played a pivotal role in disseminating and promoting the activities, achievements, and initiatives of his administration throughout his tenure.
Bldr. Banjo, whose leadership spanned nearly a decade, described the media as an “unwavering partner in progress” and emphasized the indispensable role they played in amplifying his administration’s voice across the grassroots.
“I have always seen the media as the bridge between government and the people,” Dr. Banjo remarked during his address.
“Your consistent support, fair reportage, and constructive criticism have not only guided my administration but also strengthened our community engagement.”
“This appreciation is long overdue, and I sincerely value every effort made to project Ikorodu North positively under my stewardship.”
He further revealed that the get-together marks the beginning of a wider “Thank You Tour,” which will include visits to traditional rulers, political stakeholders, community leaders, youth groups, public office holders, and civil society actors across the Ikorodu Division and beyond.
The tour, he said, aims to show appreciation to all who stood by his administration and contributed in various capacities to the growth and development of Ikorodu North LCDA.
Among the attendees were notable figures in the media industry:
Mrs. Toyosi Eromona, Senior Editor at Ikorodu News Network (INN); Alhaji Mufutau, representative of Oriwu Sun Newspaper; Mr. Abdulrahman Ajasa, Publisher and CEO of Ajasa-Info; Mr. Shakiru Seidu, Publisher of MegaXpression; Mr. Kunle Adelabu, Publisher of The Impact Newspaper; Mr. Niyi Soyebo, Publisher of News Extremist; and Mr. Adewale Araba, CEO of Laroyal Global News.
The session also served as a platform for mutual exchange as media professionals reflected on the importance of maintaining credible journalism and government accountability while also commending Dr. Banjo for his openness and media-friendly disposition during his time in office.
As the event concluded, participants expressed their appreciation for the rare gesture, describing it as a reflection of genuine leadership and respect for the press — a quality they hope to see in more political office holders.
With his post-tenure appreciation tour officially underway, Dr. Deola Banjo’s legacy of inclusive governance, community engagement, and media partnership continues to resonate across Ikorodu Division.
