The Executive Chairman of Imota Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Hon. Benson Sunday Ayodele, has officially declared open a comprehensive Free Medical Health Mission targeted at both staff and residents of the council area.
The programme, which commenced on April 20, 2026, underscores the administration’s commitment to improving access to quality healthcare and promoting the well-being of its workforce and the wider Imota community.
The initiative is designed to provide essential medical services, encourage routine health checks, and foster a culture of preventive healthcare among residents.

According to the council boss, the programme will be conducted on a monthly basis to ensure sustained impact and continuous access to healthcare services.
In his address at the event, Hon. Ayodele described the initiative as a strategic investment in human capital, emphasizing that a healthy population is essential for effective governance and sustainable development.
He noted that the council recognizes its staff as a critical asset while also extending care to residents who form the backbone of the local economy.
“A healthy workforce and community translate to better service delivery and growth.”
“This is why we have made this mission inclusive, catering not just to our staff but also to residents of Imota,” he stated.

The Chairman highlighted that the free medical outreach offers a wide range of essential healthcare services, including blood pressure and blood sugar checks, eye screening, general medical consultations, health counseling, and the distribution of essential medications.
He urged all beneficiaries to take advantage of the initiative, stressing the importance of preventive healthcare.
“To our pensionable and non-pensionable staff, and indeed all residents of Imota, this programme is our way of saying your health matters to us.”

“Do not assume you are well without proper medical checks. Prevention remains better and more affordable than cure,” he added.
The Director of Health, Mrs. Johnson Adebukola, disclosed that the programme was carefully designed to address common health concerns within the community, encouraging both staff and residents to participate fully in the exercise.
Also speaking, the Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Owoyele Wasiu, commended the Chairman for his proactive approach to healthcare delivery, noting that the initiative would significantly improve access to medical services for residents.
The Vice Chairman of Imota LCDA and Special Adviser to the Chairman on Health, Hon. Princess Bisoye Omowunmi Jimoh, also applauded the council for the laudable health mission, describing it as both unique and timely.

She noted that the initiative reflects the administration’s strong commitment to improving healthcare delivery at the grassroots, particularly in addressing the immediate health needs of residents and promoting preventive care within the community.
She further emphasized that such interventions would go a long way in enhancing public health awareness and ensuring access to quality medical services for all.

Beneficiaries expressed gratitude for the intervention. Oreoluwa Layifat, a single mother, described the programme as impactful, stating that it has improved access to quality healthcare services for residents who may not otherwise afford them.
Another beneficiary, Agbolade Olushola, noted that the exercise enabled him to undergo comprehensive medical tests and better understand his health condition.
The Council Manager, Mr. Olusegun Akinyemi, also praised the Chairman’s leadership, stating that the initiative reflects a broader agenda to make healthcare accessible and affordable while strengthening good governance at the grassroots level.

The Free Medical Health Mission aligns with the Lagos State THEMES+ agenda, particularly in advancing health and environmental sustainability, while reinforcing Imota LCDA’s commitment to staff welfare and community development.
