BASORUN TAJUDEEN BABATUNDE ROTINWA CELEBRATES PRINCE GANNY AWOBAJO AT 80, RECALLS 74 YEARS OF FRIENDSHIP ~ INN Nigeria ☆

Former Lagos State Head of Service Commission boss, Basorun Tajudeen Babatunde Rotinwa, has described veteran journalist and community development advocate, Prince Ganny Awobajo, as a living legend ahead of the celebration of his 80th birthday anniversary by family, friends, associates, and admirers.

Speaking in honour of the media icon on the 25th of May 2026, Basorun Rotinwa revealed that his friendship with Prince Awobajo has endured for an incredible 74 years, describing the celebrant as a man of integrity, vision, and dedication to community advancement.

According to him, Prince Awobajo’s life has remained a remarkable example of service, commitment, and impact, particularly in the areas of community journalism and grassroots development.

Prince Ganny Awobajo is widely recognised as one of the pioneers of community media practice in Nigeria.

A veteran journalist and publisher, he co-founded several notable media platforms both in Nigeria and the United States, including African Progress Magazine (USA), African Business Review, and Ikorodu Provident News, now known as Ikorodu News.

The publication, first released in August 1983 in Ikorodu, is regarded as the first community newspaper in Nigeria and has continued to play a significant role in amplifying grassroots voices and documenting community development initiatives.

Beyond journalism, Prince Awobajo has remained a respected figure in community service, consistently contributing insightful commentary on local governance, socio-economic growth, and developmental matters affecting Ikorodu and beyond.

He is also celebrated as one of the founding fathers of the IKORODU-OGA FESTIVAL, a socio-cultural and economically driven annual celebration that has significantly contributed to the transformation of Ikorodu from a suburban settlement into a recognised urban centre of excellence and cultural pride.

The forthcoming 80th birthday celebration is expected to attract notable personalities from the media industry, traditional institutions, community development circles, and political leadership across Lagos State and Nigeria.
