DR. AGBAJE CELEBRATES MEDIA ICON, PRINCE GANNY AWOBAJO, AT 80 ~ INN Nigeria ☆

The Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Rural Development, Dr. Nurudeen Yekinni Agbaje, has joined family members, associates, media practitioners, and well-wishers in celebrating veteran journalist and community development advocate, Prince Ganny Awobajo, on the occasion of his 80th birthday anniversary.

In a statement issued on May 25, 2026, Dr. Agbaje described Prince Awobajo as a distinguished media icon whose contributions to community journalism and grassroots development have remained invaluable over the decades.

He commended the octogenarian for his pioneering role in community media practice, particularly as the founder of Nigeria’s first community newspaper published in Ikorodu in August 1983, formerly known as Ikorodu Provident News and now operating as Ikorodu News.

According to Dr. Agbaje, Prince Awobajo’s commitment to using journalism as a tool for community enlightenment, cultural promotion, and socio-economic development has earned him a respected place in the history of media practice in Nigeria.

The Governor’s aide further noted that beyond journalism, the celebrant has consistently contributed to the growth and transformation of Ikorodu through community service, developmental advocacy, and cultural initiatives.

He also acknowledged Prince Awobajo’s role as one of the founding fathers of the IKORODU-OGA FESTIVAL, describing the annual cultural celebration as a major platform that has projected Ikorodu’s heritage and accelerated socio-economic activities within the division.

Dr. Agbaje prayed for continued good health, wisdom, and longevity for the media veteran, while urging younger generations to emulate his dedication to service, professionalism, and community advancement.

Prince Ganny Awobajo is widely regarded as one of the pioneers of community journalism in Nigeria and remains a respected voice in local governance and community development discourse.
