
ALAUSA, LAGOS – June 11, 2026 – Traditional leaders (Baales) from across Ikorodu Division on Thursday paid a strategic courtesy visit to Dr. Nurudeen Yekinni Agbaje, the Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Rural Development, at his office in the Alausa Secretariat, Ikeja, to discuss grassroots mobilization efforts ahead of the 2027 Lagos State governorship election.
The visit centered on plans to galvanize support for the anticipated governorship bid of the Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, with the traditional leaders expressing their readiness to intensify political mobilization across communities within Ikorodu Division.
Speaking during the meeting, the Baales collectively pledged to double their efforts in ensuring that residents at the grassroots level are adequately sensitized and mobilized to support Dr. Hamzat’s emergence as the next Governor of Lagos State.
The traditional rulers emphasized the importance of sustaining the developmental strides witnessed under the current administration and described Dr. Hamzat as a leader with the capacity, experience, and vision to advance the state’s progress.
They further assured Dr. Agbaje that they would extend the mobilization campaign beyond their immediate communities by engaging fellow Baales and community stakeholders across the entire Ikorodu Division to ensure widespread participation and support from the masses.
According to the Baales, grassroots engagement remains a critical factor in the democratic process, and they are committed to leveraging their influence and community structures to encourage residents to actively support Dr. Hamzat’s gubernatorial aspiration when the time comes.
Responding, Dr. Agbaje appreciated the traditional leaders for their continued commitment to community development and grassroots engagement.
He commended their willingness to support initiatives aimed at sustaining good governance and inclusive development in Lagos State.
Dr. Agbaje emphasized that the gathering reaffirmed the pivotal role of traditional institutions in mobilizing communities and facilitating constructive collaboration between government representatives and local stakeholders in advancing the state’s developmental agenda.
