In commemoration of the 2026 International Workers’ Day, Aarebirin Hon. Dr. Princess Folashade Olabanji-Oba, Member of the Lagos State Local Government Service Commission; Global Director-General of the Asiwaju Distinguished Ambassadors Movement (ADAM); Board of Trustees member (ALGONVC); Convener of the Grow Ikorodu Movement; and President of the Shelter of Grace Foundation, has extended heartfelt appreciation to workers across Ikorodu, Lagos State, and the nation at large.

In a goodwill message released on Friday, Folashade-Oba described Workers’ Day as more than a ceremonial date, emphasizing its significance as a moment to recognize the dedication, sacrifice, and resilience of Nigerian workers.

According to her, the contributions of teachers, traders, artisans, and civil servants remain the backbone of societal progress.

She noted that these groups continue to drive development despite prevailing economic and social challenges.

“Today is not just a date on the calendar, but a day set apart to celebrate the sweat, sacrifice, and strength of all diligent service to our nation,” she stated, highlighting the daily struggles and determination of workers striving for a better future.

Olabanji-Oba stressed the need for a system that rewards hard work, protects the dignity of labour, and ensures sustainable development.

She called for increased unity among workers and encouraged active participation in civic processes to shape governance and policy outcomes.

The community leader further reaffirmed her belief in the collective power of the workforce, describing them as “the engine of progress” whose voices must be heard in nation-building efforts.

Addressing workers in Greater Ikorodu, she expressed optimism about the future, assuring them that their labour would not be in vain and that their contributions would continue to shape the destiny of Nigeria.

She also used the occasion to advocate for leadership that prioritizes the welfare of citizens, fosters opportunities, and supports workers’ aspirations.

Her message aligned with ongoing calls for reforms aimed at improving labour conditions and economic stability in the country.

The statement concluded with a message of hope and solidarity, urging workers to remain steadfast, organized, and committed to building a better society for future generations.

Workers’ Day, celebrated annually on May 1, remains a global event dedicated to honouring the contributions of workers and advancing labour rights.

In Nigeria, the day continues to serve as a platform for reflection on workforce challenges and opportunities for national growth.

Princess Olabanji-Oba also wished residents a prosperous new month, reinforcing her message with themes of renewed hope, unity, and collective progress.
