
The Ikorodu Town Hall was filled with political stakeholders, community leaders, youths, market men and women, party faithful, and residents on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, as the lawmaker representing Ikorodu Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Babajimi Benson formally declared his intention to seek another term in office.
The declaration ceremony, which attracted prominent personalities from across Lagos State and Ikorodu Division, turned into a major political gathering as supporters trooped out in large numbers to reaffirm their support for the federal lawmaker, whose tenure has been widely associated with infrastructural development, youth empowerment, and community-based projects within the constituency.
Among the dignitaries present at the event were Abiodun Ogunleye, a chieftain of the Governance Advisory Council (GAC); Dr Nurudeen Yekini Agbaje; High Chief Kaoli Olusanya; Senator Mukhail Adetokunbo Abiru; market leader Deaconess Isikalu Busola, the Iyaloja of Ikorodu Division; Nollywood actress Remi Surutu; Hon. Aro Moshood Abiodun; Hon. Gbolahan Ogunleye; local government chairmen across Ikorodu Division, youth organisations, women groups, and several political associates.
Addressing the gathering, Rep. Benson appreciated the people of Ikorodu for their unwavering support throughout his years in office, stating that the confidence reposed in him by the electorate has continued to inspire him to deliver impactful representation at the National Assembly.

The federal lawmaker said his decision to seek re-election was driven by the need to consolidate on the developmental projects and programmes already initiated across the constituency.
He stressed that his administration has remained focused on people-oriented policies and grassroots development aimed at improving the standard of living of residents.
Rep. Benson further pledged to continue operating on the principles of accountability, sustainability, transparency, and credibility if re-elected.
According to him, governance should be centered on service to the people, adding that more developmental projects would be facilitated to further transform Ikorodu Division.
Speaking on his achievements, supporters at the event highlighted several projects facilitated by the lawmaker, including road rehabilitation projects, educational support programmes, youth and women empowerment schemes, installation of solar-powered streetlights, employment opportunities, health interventions, and palliative distributions aimed at easing economic challenges among residents.

Senator Tokunbo Abiru described Benson as a committed and result-oriented representative whose contributions have positively impacted the lives of many people across Ikorodu Federal Constituency.
Abiru commended the House of Representatives member for what he termed quality representation and visible developmental strides, noting that Benson has continued to demonstrate dedication to the progress of Ikorodu through various constituency projects and empowerment initiatives.
Also, speaking at the event, Dr. Nurudeen Yekinni Agbaje, Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Rural Development, praised Benson for consistently placing Ikorodu’s interests above personal gains.
He noted that the federal lawmaker has contributed immensely to grassroots development through interventions in road construction, job creation, youth empowerment, solar streetlight installation, and social welfare support for residents.

Agbaje added that Benson’s style of representation has brought government closer to the people, while urging constituents to continue supporting him for the continuation of ongoing developmental efforts.
Former Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Prince Abiodun Ogunleye, also threw his weight behind Benson’s re-election bid, describing him as an experienced politician who has remained committed to the growth and development of Ikorodu Division.
Ogunleye stated that Rep. Benson’s achievements over the years have distinguished him as one of the performing lawmakers in Lagos State, adding that continuity would allow more projects and programmes to be attracted to the constituency.

Several speakers at the gathering equally endorsed the lawmaker’s aspiration, expressing confidence in his ability to continue delivering effective representation and sustainable development for the people of Ikorodu.
The atmosphere at the venue was charged with excitement as supporters chanted solidarity songs and applauded the lawmaker’s declaration speech.
Youth groups, women associations, community leaders, and party members also took turns to express appreciation for Benson’s contributions to the socio-economic growth of Ikorodu Division.
