
The Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr Obafemi Kadri Hamzat, has formally accepted the nomination of the All Progressives Congress as its gubernatorial candidate for the 2027 Lagos Governorship Election, expressing gratitude to party leaders, members, and supporters across the state.
In a statement released following his emergence as the party’s candidate, Hamzat described the nomination as a humbling honour and thanked Almighty Allah, party stakeholders, and loyal APC members for their confidence in his leadership.
Reflecting on his political journey, the Deputy Governor said his upbringing in Mushin shaped his dedication to hard work, service, and people-oriented governance.
He noted that his over two decades of public service in Lagos had given him valuable experience working alongside visionary leaders who contributed to the state’s development.
Hamzat acknowledged the complexities of governing a megacity like Lagos, stressing that effective leadership requires planning, experience, courage, and commitment to the welfare of the people.
According to him, his decision to contest the governorship election was driven by the desire to build “a Lagos that works better for everyone.”
He assured residents across all social and economic classes that his administration would prioritize inclusive governance and equal opportunities for all Lagosians.
“Whether you are a fisherman in Badagry, a trader in Mile 12, a mechanic in Yaba, or a corporate executive in Victoria Island, this government will work for you,” he stated.
The APC governorship candidate pledged continued investment in transportation, education, healthcare, security, employment opportunities, and social development initiatives aimed at improving the standard of living across the state.
Hamzat also emphasized the need to create a Lagos where every child can aspire to greatness regardless of their background, adding that no resident should be left behind in the state’s development agenda.
While commending the achievements recorded by the current administration, he expressed optimism about the future of Lagos and the opportunities ahead.
He extended appreciation to Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Oluremi Tinubu, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Governance Advisory Council, and APC members across the 20 Local Government Areas and 37 Local Council Development Areas for their support.
Hamzat also acknowledged the support of his wife, Oluremi, and their children for their sacrifices and encouragement throughout his political journey.
Speaking on the significance of the 2027 election, the Deputy Governor described the contest as crucial to the future of Lagos, while urging residents to support his vision for sustained growth and development.
“Together, let us build the future of Lagos,” he concluded.
