As part of activities marking the 2026 Children’s Day celebration, Ikeja Electric Plc (IE), one of Nigeria’s foremost electricity distribution companies, has intensified efforts toward public safety education through an outreach programme organised for pupils in selected public primary schools across Lagos State.

The initiative, which was carried out in Bariga community, featured visits to C.M.S. Primary School and Howells Nursery and Primary School, where pupils were educated on electricity safety practices through engaging learning sessions, practical demonstrations, and interactive classroom activities. The company also distributed educational materials to support academic learning.

The outreach was implemented under Ikeja Electric’s Personal Corporate Social Responsibility (P-CSR) initiative through its Employee Volunteer Scheme (EVS), reflecting the company’s continued commitment to community development and child-focused education.

Speaking during the programme, the Head of Corporate Communications at Ikeja Electric, , noted that educating children on electrical safety remains critical in preventing avoidable accidents within homes and communities.

According to him, exposing children to safety knowledge at an early stage would help them better understand how to safely interact with electricity in their daily environment.

“Electricity plays a vital role in modern living, and children must be equipped with the right knowledge to stay safe around electrical installations and appliances. Beyond celebrating Children’s Day, this initiative is about protecting lives and building awareness among future generations,” he said.

Okotie further described the outreach as more than a conventional corporate social responsibility initiative, stressing that the company remains committed to shaping responsible and safety-conscious citizens through sustained community engagement.

He explained that the programme was designed not only to educate pupils on electrical hazards, but also to inspire learning, civic responsibility, and positive social values among young people within Ikeja Electric’s host communities.

The company spokesperson added that investing in children through educational and safety initiatives would contribute significantly to reducing domestic electrical accidents while promoting long-term social development.

During the sessions, pupils were taught how to identify electrical hazards, avoid unsafe practices at home and in school environments, and respond appropriately during electrical emergencies. The interactive nature of the programme also allowed the children to ask questions and share personal experiences.

Management of the beneficiary schools commended Ikeja Electric for the initiative, describing the intervention as timely and impactful. They noted that educating children on safety measures would create wider awareness within families and neighbourhoods, thereby strengthening community consciousness on electrical safety.
