
IKORODU – The Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Rural Development, Dr. Nurudeen Yekinni Agbaje, has pledged to construct a modern school canteen for his alma mater, Oriwu Model College, Ikorodu, to provide students with a conducive eating environment.
Dr. Agbaje disclosed the plan during the Oriwu College Founders’ Day Celebration and Groundbreaking Ceremony for the National Secretariat of the Oriwu College Old Students’ Association of Nigeria (OCOSAN), held on Saturday, June 13, 2026, at the school premises.
According to him, the decision to support the construction of the canteen was reached after deliberations with former Minister of Works and Housing, Senator Adeseye Ogunlewe, who emphasized the importance of creating a befitting space where students can conveniently and hygienically have their meals during school hours.
Dr. Agbaje noted that the proposed canteen will provide a safe, comfortable, and conducive environment for students, while also contributing to their welfare and overall learning experience.
He reiterated his commitment to supporting educational development and improving infrastructure in schools across Lagos State, stressing that quality learning goes beyond classrooms and includes facilities that promote the well-being of students.
The announcement was welcomed by alumni, teachers, students, and stakeholders present at the event, which was themed, “Celebrating Our Legacy, Building Our Future, Strengthening Our Association, United For Greater Impact.”
The Founders’ Day celebration also featured the groundbreaking ceremony for the OCOSAN National Secretariat, marking another milestone in the efforts of the association to preserve the legacy of Oriwu College and strengthen its impact on the institution’s development.
Stakeholders, including Sen. Adeseye Ogunleye, Alhaja Kudirat Olayinka Lamina, Sir David Sunmoni, Engr. Shamsideen Charles Longe, and Prince Adesegun Ogunlewe, commended the intervention, expressing confidence that the proposed canteen project would significantly enhance the school’s infrastructure and provide lasting benefits for current and future students of Oriwu Model College.
