The event held at it's Somi Jaiyesimi Hall on the 17th of September 2023, showcased the club's gratitude towards prestigious individuals who have made a significant impact on the community over the years.
It was an auspicious assemblage filled with celebration, appreciation, and recognition of hard work and dedication.
The eminent personalities and stakeholders were acknowledged for their various initiatives, projects, and efforts that have positively influenced the growth and development of Ikorodu.
Chairman of the Occasion, Chief Adewunmi Ogunsanya, Odofin of Ikorodu, in his brief speech, commended the club's zeal to foster community development across the waterbed region of Lagos State.
Pinpointing the legacy project commissioned by the club earlier before the event, Ogunsanya praised the club for its generous gesture to promote longevity among indigenes and residents of Ikorodu.
He asserted his impression of the club's existing partnership with Ikorodu division initiative (IDPIL/GTE), a synergy that he explained as laudable and worth emulating.
On his path, the president of Oriwu club Ikorodu, Prince Amid Adekunle Oduborisa called attention to the power of community collaboration.
According to the president, the event displays the importance of recognizing those who go above and beyond to make a difference. Underscoring the numerous accomplishments of the club, Oduborisa thanked past presidents for setting the pace to make the 50th anniversary memorable.
He also gave credit to the club's board of trustees and anniversary committee (headed by Hon. Ola Animashaun) for living up to expectations in making the celebration successful.

able to get the majority of the criminal elements arrested. As I speak, we have arrested about 185 members of various cult groups. Presently, some of them have been prosecuted, while others who were involved in capital offences like murder and rape are still in Kirikiri and Ikoyi today. WHAT ABOUT ARMED ROBBERS, HOW MANY HAVE YOU BEEN ABLE TO ARREST? We don't have many cases of armed robbers. We only have some cultists who happen to be phone and laptop snatchers. So, we only now have a few numbers of phone snatching in Ikorodu. I cannot even give an account of cases of how many we have arrested. But it falls between the cultists and those who are taking hard drugs. So that is what we have in Ikorodu. But the major one we have in Ikorodu that happens to be the genesis of our problem is the land grabbers.
Land Grabbers are the ones that fund these bad boys; the cultists, the hoodlums because they are the ones
taking them to some of these farms and villages and that is where some of these clashes that we have in
Ikorodu Division usually starts from. CAN YOU MENTION SOME OF THESE AREAS? Areas like Isiwu, Imota, Agbowa and some of these other areas. You cannot combat crime in Ikorodu without visiting Ogijo. Ogijo is under Ogun State. We have another one in Emuren. Emuren is under Ogun
State. The Eye Guys use Ogijo as their hideout, while the Aye Guys use Emuren as their hideout. And some
of the arrests we have made so far were made in Some of these areas. CAN YOU GIVE US AN INSIGHT INTO SOME OF THESE OPERATIONS? We went to Emuren, we had an operation with the CP Strike Team. We left Ikorodu to Gberigbe at 1 AM,
getting to Gberigbe, we discovered that the land grabbers were already on the ground there, and as we have in Ikorodu, we met some of them with guns, but we could not do anything because we were trying to avoid a situation whereby we tag them and they tag us or relate us to something we do not know much about, so we left and moved to Igbokuta. We raided Igbokuta and arrested two People with one locally-made gun. We left there and those we arrested at lgbo-Okuta gave us information that their colleagues were in Emuren. On getting to Emuren, we arrested about 27 of them.
In the course of our interrogation, one of them confessed that he was a member of the gang that kidnapped a Lebanese in Agbowa Ikosi about three
years back and we immediately linked the case to the IRT and God be the Glory, we apprehended the others because when we handed him over, the IRT worked with us to apprehend the others. He said the AK47 rifles they used were still in Owutu.
On getting to Owutu, in the course of our tracking, we could not get the person, we then moved to Makun in
Sagamu, where we arrested one person. From there we moved to Iyana Ipaja, where we eventually
recovered the AK47 rifle and we handed the case over to the IRT.
Some members were reported to be in Imota, so we moved there. In the course of looking for one mister
"Akeem", he ran away and we recovered his bartender pistol. We arrested two others in Imota who led us back to Emuren, where we recovered five locally made Runs and two b barretters in the operation. We also extended our operation to lgbogbo, where we arrested guys and recovered 1 one locally made gun. This led us to the Ikorodu Round-about, where we arrested two seven guys with one locally cut-to size gun. Those we arrested at the round-about led us to Ofin and Oreta, where we arrested some of their members. We also extended this operation to Baiyeku, where we arrested an additional five guys.
Moving back to Ikorodu, we strategized to move to Ogijo, where we arrested a certain "Blue Jesus". Blue
Jesus was arrested by the IDPIL officers, Igbogbo Police Division and Anti-cultists about three years ago. We arrested him with three locally made guns and someone who was killed in Itamaga. We handed him over to the Anti-Cultists who in turn handed him over to the Homicide Department in Panti. WHAT IS THE CURRENT STATUS OF THESE ARRESTS? I was there for an interview where the three cultists confessed that they are part of the team that disturbs
the peace of Ikorodu. They also laid down names of people they have killed in the process which includes: a vulcanizer in Itamaga and Itumeko respectively. We heard about them coming back and we sprang into action again we were able to arrest one "Jelili" in a boutique shop at Ota-ona, the owner of which they killed, at about 10 am. To God Be the Glory, we apprehended about two of them for whom I still go to court. WHAT HAPPENS AFTER YOU HAND THEM OVER TO THE POLICE? I always stand as a witness to the cases of some of these guys in question, whenever we get them arrested. And, looking at the records, I have about 42-43 cases to attend at the Lagos High Court. Those who are alleged to have cases to be answered. There was a case sometime in June 2022, where a wine store was stormed and robbed on Obafemi Awolowo Road. Looking at the CCTV footage, we observed that the perpetrators were a 6-man team of members of the Eye Cult group, led by "Ika". lka was later killed in a robbery incident in Ibadan, while the other members of his team were arrested by the Local Joint Task Force, they are Spyro, Onyabo and the remaining members of the team. They confessed their involvement in the robbery on Obafemi Awolowo Road. WHAT HAS CHANGED, WITH THE LAUNCH OF THE IDPIL LOCAL SECURITY JOINT TASK FORCE? We were a lot encouraged when the IDPIL team was introduced, Some of us had been using our cars to secure this entire Division, asides from doing it for free. So, Odofin Adewunmi Ogunsanya led IDPIL.
The team serves as enough motivation for us to do more, especially the fact that vehicles were also provided, because in the past, we rented motorcycles, while some of us used our cars, Today, we have over 17 vehicles and over 50 motorcycles to combat the criminals, courtesy of the IDPIL. This is the reason the lord Division Communities have been so calm. WHAT CAN YOU ALLUDE TO THE SUCCESSES RECORDED SO FAR TOO? Non-indigene security personnel cannot understand our environment as we do. We know the places and all the neighbourhoods. We are on the ground. We can't watch them destroy our town. Once we identify the criminals, we track them and follow them into their hideouts until we finally fish them out. FINAL WORDS l am appealing to our Local Government Chairmen not to politicize security. We the local vigilante groups are one and we operate in unity. But, the way they are
going about the security of Ikorodu Division by polarizing us, may spell doom for the security of Ikorodu Division. I want to also appeal to our Royal Fathers to talk to family land owners to desist from bringing strangers in the name of Omo-Oniles into their family land disputes. And, finally, to parents, let them train their children and wards well and caution them from joining bad gangs.

r03on3m8458524470985108778 Ikorodu Division Peace Initiative (IDPIL/GTE) recently commemorated its second anniversary, highlighting the significant progress made towards fostering peace and unity in Ikorodu division since its inception. Aimed at creating a safe and harmonious environment for residents of Ikorodu division in Nigeria, IDPIL/GTE marked its second year of establishment at the palace of HRM, Oba Adeoriyomi Abdul-Akeem Oyebo, the Obateru of Egbin Kingdom.
During the anniversary celebration dated the 15th of August 2023, the Peace Initiative recognized and expressed gratitude to the various stakeholders who have played a vital role in supporting their mission. Ingrained in the welcome address by Otunba Ayodele Elesho, the outfit extolled individuals and organizations who contributed their time, resources, and expertise to promote peace and security in the region.
In addition, Otunba Elesho acknowledged the outstanding efforts of the security officials who have worked tirelessly to maintain law and order in Ikorodu. "Their dedication and commitment to ensuring the safety of the community have been instrumental in the success of the peace-building efforts" Otunba Elesho added.
The event served as a platform to reflect on the achievements of the past two years and to discuss plans for further sustainability of peace in Ikorodu division. According to Otunba Ganiyu Olusegun Abiru (Executive Secretary of IDPIL), the event also provided an opportunity for community members to come together and strengthen their resolve to promote harmony and understanding.
In summary, the Ikorodu Division Peace Initiative's second-anniversary celebration portrayed a testament to the power of collaboration and the collective efforts of individuals and organizations working towards a common goal. In his address, Odofin Adewunmi Ogunsanya, the Chairman of the Ikorodu Division Peace Initiative (IDPIL/GTE), highlighted the remarkable achievements of the organization and emphasized the importance of continued collaboration and cooperation from the residents of the Ikorodu division in Nigeria.
According to Odofin Ogunsanya, his leadership (over the peace initiative) has made significant strides in fostering peace, unity, and security in the community. He continued, "Through various initiatives and programs, we have successfully brought together different stakeholders to work towards a common goal of creating a peaceful environment for all".
"We're grateful to the residents of the Ikorodu division for their support and active participation in the peace-building efforts". "We also acknowledged the positive impact that the collective efforts of the community have had in achieving the organisation's goals thus far".
However, Ogunsanya called for increased collaboration and cooperation from the residents, emphasizing that sustaining peace requires continuous engagement and commitment from everyone. He urged individuals and organizations to come forward with ideas, resources, and support to further strengthen the peace initiative.
Ogunsanya stressed the importance of unity and solidarity among the residents, highlighting that a united front is essential in addressing the challenges and promoting lasting peace in Ikorodu division.
"As we continue on the path to foster growth, development and peace, this initiative hopes to inspire other communities to prioritize peace and unity" Ogunsanya added.
Former minister of works, Senator Adeseye Ogunlewe, chairman of the occasion, in his goodwill message, commended the overtime efforts and contribution of the Chairman of the Ikorodu Division Peace Initiative, Odofin Adewunmi Ogunsanya, and called for continued collaboration and cooperation from residents in Ikorodu division.
He encouraged community members to embrace dialogue, understanding, and empathy as they work towards a harmonious future.
"What I can say about this initiative is that it serves as a reminder of the communal obligation to build a peaceful and prosperous community. "By working together, the residents of the Ikorodu division can create a brighter future for all" Senator Ogunlewe asserted.
The high point of the event was the presentation of awards to esteemed personalities across the division which started with the recognition of Royal fathers.
Senator Adetokunbo Abiru, representing the Lagos East Senatorial district (and chairman, Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance & other financial institutions) was honoured as well with an award.
Other awardees according to the headliners include; High Chief Aliu Musediku (the Regent of Ijede) {for pillar of peace and security}, ACP Bode Fakeye (for special peace and security partners'), Chief Lanre Labinjo (IDPIL-LTJF Commandant) {for outstanding gallantry), Mr Salami Awolaru T.H, among other recipients.

Applauded by stakeholders and inhabitants for feats in town progress and continual growth enhancement infusion, Ikorodu division peace initiative took its support scheme a step further on the 10th of September 2022.
The privately run non-governmental organisation, poised to display corroborating synergy between private and public sector, took to the palace pavilion of the adeboruwa of Igbogbo kingdom for an academic support program, hosting significant personalities (traditional rulers, council chairmen and delegates from the Lagos state ministry of education) across the entire Ikorodu division.
Prioritising education, the program is aimed at producing scholars to replicate the likes of Awojobi, TOS Benson, Seye Ogunlewe, Folake Solanke SAN, Adeniran Ogunsnya, S.O.K Shillings, Adebogun (Caleb University fame), Gbadamosi, Taiwo Hassan and Onafowokan.
With a measured 1.5billion naira investment into education, IDPIL brought more hope to faces of 181 higher learning students from the region, supporting them with 20 million naira bursary scholarships.
The bursary award enables recipients of the scholarship who are twelve in number selected on the basis of two beneficiaries per local government and local council development areas eligible to receive N200,000.00 scholarship throughout the duration of their course of study, subject to favorable educational action as underlined in their individual letters Award.
An advanced move, receiving high commendation from HRMs; Oba Kabiru Adewale Shotobi (Ayangburen of Ikorodu), Oba Semiudeen Orimadegun Kasali (Adeboruwa of Igbogbo), Oba Ajibade Bakare Agoro (Ranodu of Imota), Oba Aremu Sotonwa (Sekumade of Ipakodo), Oba Olukayode Raji (Eweye of Isiu) and Oba Richard Ogunsanya (Olubeshe of Ibeshe) who were all present at the presentation event was considered first of its kind in the state.
Appreciating the diligence and sense of duty by the screening committee throughout the procedures directing to the event, Mrs Adebimpe Akinsola, chairman, of the IDPIL scholarship and bursary committee, commended the professional inputs from Consultants towards the success of the scheme.
She continued, "I would like to congratulate all our successful beneficiaries for making it. This financial support may appear 'free' but beneficiaries went through written examinations, rigorous screenings and interviews to make them eligible".
"Let me put on record that, over 400 students applied for this scholarship and bursary scheme, but we eventually shortlisted 181 successful candidates after a herculean task".
"This initiative has come to stay as a yearly affair and those who could not make it to this stage shouldn't lose hope but, rather work harder against the next edition".
Mrs Adebimpe further explained that the support scheme underscores the importance of a community-driven initiative conceived to provide the much-needed financial support for our brilliant minds across the Division.
The executive secretary IDPIL, Otunba Olusegun Abiru told students not to forget the level of assistance which has been put in place for them, urging them to work towards becoming a point of support for other students in the future.
Business mogul, CEO of Multichoice (DSTV) Nigeria, Odofin of Ikorodu and chairman, IDPIL, Chief Adewunmi Ogunsanya in his brief remarks explained that the essence of supporting education is to uphold the dream of turning Ikorodu into the next advanced region in the State.
Adding that Ikorodu Division has become a safer and peaceful place ever since the launch of the initiative, Chief Ogunsanya stated that the initiative is taken a bold step in shaping the destiny of the region, through the unprecedented investment of 20 million naira into its Education Endowment Fund.
Ogunsanya proceeded, "With education as part of our core objective, this initiative will build fora for young men and women that would shape government policies, manage conglomerates and would be responsible for taking decisions that would shape our tomorrow as a community and Division".
"Our objectives are not centred only on security but all other areas, captured in our SHEER Agenda; Security, Health, Education, Environment and Road Rehabilitation (SHEER)".
"If you think education is expensive, try ignorance. We'll not give a reason for any of our young lads to result in any form of social vices, that's why we're embarking on this historic step as a proactive and responsible organisation".
"Investing in the education of our children today is planting a mustard seed that would eventually grow into an oak tree under which many of us would take shelter in our old age".
"The development of our community cannot be left in the hands of government alone, everyone of us has to contribute his/ her quota towards the growth and development of the Division".
Ogunsanya later stated that a vocational training centre is currently under construction to further strengthen the sector.
Mr Adesoko Taofeek (representing the Hon. Commissioner for education) and Abdulrahman Lekki from the Lagos state scholarship board whose daughter was also a recipient of the award thanked the initiative for setting the pace and making unprecedented moves to foster growth.
Top recipients; Miss Toluwani Osisiogu, Tiletile Azeez, Olamide Amusa gave a warm appreciation speech to the organisation for the support, affirming their pledge to stay focused and give back to the community in the future.
