Mr Sanwo-Olu and his spouse were received by a cheering crowd at his Polling Unit, Eiyeokole Ward E3, Adeniji Adele, Lagos Island.
The Governor, after thumb-printing his ballot paper to cast his vote for the Governorship and State of Assembly elections, addressed journalists and voters alike on sustaining a peaceful and cordial electoral exercise.
Mr Sanwo-Olu was accompanied by the Lagos State Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Mr Segun Dawodu and his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Gboyega Akosile.

fb img 16787400378111938975902957296699 By Gboyega Akosile The decision of Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to seek a second term in office, came as no surprise to millions of Lagosians, in that the constitution of land permits him to do so. But the move, no doubt, was greeted by spontaneous excitement among the residents, given the quality of leadership, people-oriented policies and clear governance direction brought to State by Sanwo-olu and his brother, Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat.
Little wonder Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Onikan became a beehive on Saturday, December 3, 2022, when All Progressives Congress (APC) flagged off the Governor’s re-election campaign. Sanwo-Olu, an exemplary public sector reformer and astute politician, known for his love and passion for public service, has shown leadership in Lagos by giving the electorate a great deal in steering the ship of the nation’s commercial city in the right direction.
As the 15th Lagos Governor, and having worked closely with three previous governors – Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, Babatunde Raji Fashola, and Akinwunmi Ambode in different capacities, Sanwo-Olu understands the State and the various challenges facing the mega city. His knowledge of the challenges confronting residents made his administration adopt a six pillars policy programme tagged T.H.E.M.E.S in solving the identified problems through good governance. The six pillars are; Traffic Management and Transportation; Health and Environment; Education and Technology; Making Lagos a 21st Century state; Entertainment and Tourism; Security and Governance. Each of these six pillars is carefully thought out as the Government’s priority in delivering solutions across sectors.
Sanwo-Olu, in his speech at the swearing-in on May 29, 2019, spoke passionately about his plans for the State, especially his dream of building a Greater Lagos. This passion seemed to have motivated his quest for good governance. The Governor, without any iota of doubt, has delivered significantly on his campaign promises during his first term in office. His achievements are visible in different sectors and have been commended by people within and outside the state.
A little over seven months when the Sanwo-Olu administration had barely settled down, the COVID-19 pandemic ravaged the entire world and Lagos became an epicentre of the airborne disease. The Governor showed leadership in rising to the occasion and responding to the pandemic. As Incident Commander, he protected the citizens of the state by ensuring that the ravaging infection was well managed.
Sanwo-Olu, with the assistance of his Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi, and other stakeholders controlled the spread and ensured that those who contracted the virus were well attended to. He was the first governor to come up with a clearly defined containment strategy and response, which was later adopted by the presidency for the national response plan. This intervention by the Sanwo-Olu administration made Nigeria the fourth-best country in the world which impressively curbed the spread of the COVID-19 virus according to the World Health Organisation (WHO).
Sanwo-Olu also displayed great leadership during the #EndSARS demonstration, a youth-motivated civil action against police brutality, which was later hijacked by hoodlums. The campaign, which started peacefully turned violent after it was hijacked, leading to violence and destruction of many private and public properties in Lagos State. Rather than allowing Lagos to be brought to its knees by the ugly incident, Sanwo-Olu rose to the challenge by championing the “Rebuild Lagos” plan. The administration’s traffic management and transportation blueprint has significantly brought the dream of Lagos to have an efficient and reliable intermodal system of transportation to a reality. Sanwo-Olu’s government has invested hugely in waterways and a light rail system as alternatives to road transportation. The Governor's administration started the 37-km Red Line rail project from the scratch and the project is at the completion stage. At full operation, the Red Line will move about a million passengers daily. The administration also injected huge resources into the 13-km Blue Line rail, commissioned in January by President Muhammadu Buhari, to ensure mass mobility from the Mile 2 axis into the Island.
To ease traffic gridlock in the metropolis, Sanwo-Olu’s administration built and completed Agege-Pen Cinema dual carriage flyover with adjoining roads in Agege, and also commissioned the Lagos-Ogun network of roads with the bridge in Agbado-Oke Odo LCDA. He also carried out Junction Improvements and Reconfiguration at the 18 traffic spots, including the first and second Lekki Roundabouts, Allen Avenue, Ajah and Igando. All these are done to reduce traffic gridlock in the State.
In the last three and half years, Governor Sanwo-Olu has constructed and rehabilitated over 1,000 roads while others are at various stages of completion. The plan for construction of the 4th Mainland Bridge is also on course. The incumbent administration also started the Opebi-Ojota Link Bridge, which is expected to be completed this year. The First phase of the six-lane rigid-pavement 18.75km Lekki-Epe Expressway, stretching from Eleko Junction to Epe T-junction, is completed and delivered to the good people of Lagos residing in the Lekki-Epe axis. The Sanwo-Olu administration has also provided thousands of LAGRIDE cars, First and Last Mile buses, and Large Capacity buses and boats for waterways to ease transportation in Lagos. Sanwo-Olu believes no resources should be spared in providing quality health care to the residents, which is why the State Government delivered secondary health facilities, such as Mother and Child Centers (MCCs) in Eti-Osa, Igando, Epe and Badagry. Lagos Government is building New Massey Children Hospital, which will be the biggest in West Africa. There is also an ongoing construction of a General Hospital in Ojo and the development of mental health facility in Ketu Ejinrin.
To address waste management and environmental issues in Lagos, the Sanwo-Olu administration is working hard to rid the State of the flood. The State Government has carried out extensive dredging and desilting on many secondary and tertiary drainage channels across the state.
Sanwo-Olu's administration has made a lot of investments in education and technology in Lagos by building thousands of classrooms and providing 380,000 units of composite furniture for the students. Among the iconic school projects built by the Sanwo-Olu government are the new Elemoro Community Junior Secondary School, Ibeju-Lekki, and the containerised modular classroom block in Vetland Junior Grammar School, Agege. The Governor has also rewarded 13 outstanding teachers with new vehicles on two occasions. The administration has equally made remarkable inroads in the training of teachers for 21st-century competence. It is of note that through the EKO EXCEL training initiative, more than 3,000 primary school teachers have been trained on how to competently utilise technology in teaching, for better educational outcomes for our children. The Government has also paid fully, the WAEC fees of all students in the State’s public secondary schools to date.
Lagos State Polytechnic (LASPOTECH) and Lagos State College of Education (LACOED) have been upgraded to universities. Lagos now has three State-owned universities, courtesy of Sanwo-Olu’s education reforms. It should be noted that there have been no disruptions in academic activities across Lagos’ tertiary institutions since Sanwo-Olu took over; all issues that relate to students, staff and lecturers’ welfare are promptly attended to. One of the cardinal programmes of the Governor is Making Lagos a 21st-century economy. In this regard, Sanwo-Olu has recorded a milestone in the provision of requisite infrastructure. The recent handover of the Lekki Deep Seaport project is a pointer to this. Lagos has also secured approval for the development of Badagry Port and an international airport in Lekki. All of these will boost Lagos’ economy when completed.
Governor Sanwo-Olu has also made significant progress in the Housing sector, as the administration commissioned over 7,000 flats in about 17 housing units in different parts of the state in the last three and half years, while more housing schemes are expected to be delivered in the coming months.
The Sanwo-Olu administration has done so much in the area of agriculture and food security, with initiatives such as the Agro Processing, Productivity Enhancement and Livelihood Improvement Support (APPEALS) Project, designed to build the capacity of players in the rice, aquaculture and poultry value chains. The government has also strengthened the capacity of farmers through the Lagos Agripreneurship Programme (LAP), the Sea Food Festival and the Eko City Farmers Food Market.
Above all, Sanwo-Olu has completed and delivered the all-important Lagos Rice Mill, Imota, Ikorodu. This rice mill will inject over 250,000 direct and indirect jobs into employment space for the youth.
Safety is key for development. The Governor recently commissioned three newly built fire stations and 62 fire fighting equipment. Sanwo-Olu has also made significant development in Entertainment and Tourism, which is the fifth pillar of his administration’s THEMES agenda. He has supported the creative industry across youth-centric initiatives, among which are the building of a Film City and the release of N1 billion seed capital to support the creative sector in Lagos.
As of today, over 3,000 youths have been trained and empowered by the Lagos State Government in partnership with the Africa Film Academy, Del-York Films Academy and EbonyLife Studios.
On security and governance, the administration’s goal is transformational security, using cutting-edge technology. To achieve this, the State Government is building Command-and-Control Centre to efficiently monitor security in the metropolis, while investing heavily in security cameras, data-gathering and processing to stay permanently ahead of crime and criminality.
Sanwo-Olu has made Lagos safe and secure through investment in security, which is the reason crime reduced drastically, making Lagos the safest State in Nigeria. The government's decision to ban motorcycles and tricycles on highways and some roads within the state has also led to a reduction in accident victims in the state. Governor Sanwo-Olu has, without a doubt, taken governance to a whole new level during his first term. Therefore, his re-election campaign has been based on his sterling performance and hands-on experience. He has delivered on many of his campaign promises and certainly deserves the vote of every forward-looking Lagosian who thinks more about the development of the State.

Hon. Wasiu Adesina, accompanied by his council delegates, arrived at Eleshin town hall, engaging party canvassers in reaching out to more eligible voters in the community.
With the gubernatorial and State house of assembly elections coming up on March 11th, the council boss advised party members to come out en mass and vote to re-elect the Lagos state governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
Adesina also called on voters to lend full support to APC Ikorodu constituency 1 candidate for the Lagos State house of assembly, Hon. Gbolahan Ogunleye (OGA).
Concluding his message, the chairman told Ikorodu News Network (INN) that he feels confident about the eventual outcome of Saturday's elections.
"Even though Ikorodu had the highest number of votes during the Presidential, Senatorial and House of Representatives elections, I believe on March 11th, we'll supersede that record for the All Progressive Congress Party (APC)" He asserted.

The unique prayers and thanksgiving service dated Wednesday, March 29, 2023, was organised as directed by the President-Elect, instead of his annual birthday colloquium.
Presided over by the Grand Chief Imam of Ikorodu division, Sheikh (Alhaji) Seifudeen Ayinla Ademoritan Olowo-Oribi, the devotion program drew Islamic clerics from the six districts consisting of Ikorodu division.
Chief Asipa Kaoli, Alhaji Waheed Animashaun, Hon. Lanre Balogun, Alhaji Decubano and other party leaders were in attendance.
Executive Chairman of Ikorodu Local Government, Hon. Wasiu Adesina, Bldr Olusesan Daini, Executive Chairman of Igbogbo Baiyeku LCDA, Hon. Motunrayo Gbadebo-Alogba, Executive Chairman of Ijede LCDA and Bldr Adeola Adebisi Banjo, Executive Chairman of Ikorodu North LCDA also joined the sacred gathering as well.
Coinciding with the Ramadan season, Sheikh (Alhaji) Chief Imam Seifudeen Ayinla Ademoritan Olowo-Oribi, in his lecture urged the Muslim faithfuls to prioritise praying for the peace, unity and progress of Nigeria as the nation readies to embrace another duration of leadership.
Sheikh Olowo-Oribi further prayed to Almighty Allah to grant Bola Tinubu long life, good health and wisdom with which he would oversee the nation to a prestigious elevation as President.
Subsequently, the Grand Chief Imam and over a hundred rabi Imams who assembled in the mosque, read the full Quran to offer prayers for Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Speaking from his administration standpoint, Hon Wasiu Adesina, Executive Chairman of Ikorodu LG said Tinubu's electoral victory was the providence of God and that such prayer session is timely and ideal in reverence to Almighty God to further lead him right to steer the affairs of the country.
According to Adesina, for Asiwaju to put his birthday colloquium on hold for the third time to lift the nation into the hands of Almighty God shows the kind of leader he is.
"We must continue to pray for him for God to grant him the strength and capacity to take this country to a higher level" Adesina asserted.
This year will be the third in recent times the birthday colloquium will not hold in deference to developments in the country. In 2020, the 12th edition of the colloquium marking Asiwaju's 68th birthday was put off to empathize with those who lost their lives or were affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
And in 2022, the birthday symposium was also called off by Asiwaju Tinubu right at the venue of the event when news emerged of the terror attack on the Abuja-Kaduna train in which several persons died and many others were abducted.
The Eko Hotel and Suites, Lagos venue was already filled with dignitaries to celebrate the birthday when Asiwaju took to the podium to announce the cancellation of the event.
The former Governor of Lagos had said it would not be proper for him as a statesman to be celebrating when such a tragedy had befallen the nation.
This year, the president-elect said the date, which falls within the holy month of Ramadan, should be dedicated to prayers and seeking God's guidance for him and the country as he prepares to take the reins of leadership.

Mudashiru Obasa; Secretary to the State Government, Mrs Folasade Jaji, members of the Governance Advisory Council (GAC), political and religious leaders on Wednesday held a thanksgiving service and special prayers in different parts of Lagos to celebrate the 71st birthday of the President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.
The thanksgiving service and special prayers were held simultaneously at Chapel of Christ the Light and Secretariat Community Central Mosque, Alausa, Ikeja as well as in the Central Mosques of the five divisions in the State – Ikorodu, Badagry, Ikeja, Lagos and Epe. During the special birthday thanksgiving and special prayers, Governor Sanwo-Olu and members of his cabinet, GAC members, and political and religious leaders showered encomiums on the President-elect for his leadership, mentorship and passion for Lagos and Nigeria. Islamic and Christian clerics also prayed for the celebrant, Asiwaju Tinubu; for Peace, Progress, Unity and New Nigeria. Prayers were also held for a successful Inauguration Day (May 29) and for Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Dr Obafemi Hamzat. Speaking at the Special Prayers held at Secretariat Community Central Mosque, Alausa, Governor Sanwo-Olu, reiterated calls for Nigerians to be steadfast in their prayers for the President-elect to succeed as the president of the country.
Sanwo-Olu, who was represented at the event by Dr Hamzat stated that no leader has the intention to fail but sometimes gets overwhelmed by challenges and unexpected issues upon assumption of office.
He, therefore, seeks the continuous prayers of Nigerians that the President-elect be surrounded by good people as advisers and aides who have the interest of the country and the citizens at heart. Sanwo-Olu disclosed that Tinubu has a lot of good plans for Nigerians and will surely perform well in office. He, however, solicited the support and understanding of Nigerians as Asiwaju Tinubu leads the country to greater heights.
“Asiwaju himself is very grateful to Almighty Allah for what He has done for him, my prayer for him is for Allah to be with him, to guide him to achieve those things he desires for this country because he has a lot of plans. I just pray that all those plans will materialize to impact people and this country positively,” he said.
The Governor described Asiwaju as a very bold and determined man who has persevered a lot. “He doesn’t run away from challenges. So he is a man that understands what he needs for a nation to be developed and I just pray that he will be able to do all those things in his mind for development,” he said.
Speaking at the Thanksgiving Service held at the Chapel of Christ the Light, Alausa, Governor Sanwo-Olu, who was also represented by his Chief of Staff, Mr Tayo Ayinde, praised God for Tinubu's life, and prayed that the “visionary leader would be strengthened to bring about development and programmes that would uplift the people.” Ayinde, who read the first lesson from Psalm 111: 1-10, said the birthday Thanksgiving Service is not just to express gratitude to God on Asiwaju Tinubu's birthday, but also to appreciate Him for the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate's victory in the last elections. He prayed that God will give the President-elect His wisdom, guidance and direction for Asiwaju Tinubu as he prepares to take the reins of leadership in Nigeria.
“Today is an auspicious occasion because we are gathered to celebrate the anniversary of the birth of a great man, a visionary, transformative leader. Asiwaju Bola Tinubu is a pride to us in Lagos and a priceless global icon; an unrelenting fighter for democracy, an inextinguishable guiding light to the nation and an inspiration to me as well as the progressive's family.
“We give glory to God for answering all the prayers as evidenced in the declaration of the celebrant of today, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu as President-Elect of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. We also beseech the Almighty God, especially in this Lenten season, to strengthen him, grant him good health, wisdom, inspiration and all that he will require to accomplish all the laudable plans, programmes, and policies that will uplift our dear country and all Nigerians to greatness,” he prayed.
Speaking during the Thanksgiving Service, the Prelate Emeritus of the Methodist Church Nigeria, His Eminence Sunday Makinde, said Asiwaju Tinubu was elected to rebuild Nigeria, raise Nigeria to enviable heights, and re-establish peace and unity in the country.
Makinde in his exhortation during the service described Tinubu's election as a destiny for a purpose. He, therefore, sought ardent prayers for Tinubu for “divine wisdom, robust good health, victory over his enemies, and for him to finish his terms successfully.”
The Prelate Emeritus also congratulated Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and his deputy, Dr Obafemi Hamzat, for their victory in the March 18 gubernatorial poll, saying their re-election was possible because of their hard work and people-oriented programmes.
"I will advise Tinubu to choose his team of ministers, advisers, and ambassadors under divine prayers. He should consult God before man. He should use the best brains and professionals, even from the opposition parties to actualise his dreams of a better Nigeria.
“Tinubu must work on achieving religious tolerance, and ethnic and tribal unity. He must ensure that social amenities are in abundance -water, electricity, educational and medical rehabilitation, agricultural revolution and development, and ensure massive job creation to reduce unemployment and brain drain," Makinde advised the President-elect.
Also speaking, the Chief Imam, Alausa Secretariat Community Central, Imam, Abdul-Hakeem Abdul-Gafar, during his lecture stated that the gathering was to give thanks to Allah for permitting Asiwaju to emerge as the President-elect at the concluded presidential election and for preserving his life to witness his 71st birthday which comes up in the Holy Month of Ramadan. In his remarks, the National Missioner of the Ansar- ud- deen Society of Nigeria, Sheikh AbdurRahman Ahmad, charged Nigerians to continually pray for the President-elect that Allah should help him, lead and guide him in the journey.
He added that the people need to be supportive by being constructive, truthful and privately correcting him and not continually praising him.
Sheikh Ahmad also urged them to acknowledge that Asiwaju Tinubu is not a magician knowing that the few months ahead may be tough and therefore, the people need to be tolerant as there will be light at the end of the tunnel.
